Curious about the Redhawk 5050 or the 5032. They both are chambered for .45 Colt and can shoot .45 ACP with moon clips.

I do not own any Ruger DA revolvers and the last time I shot one was at least 20 years ago. I have lots of experience with their SA revolvers - good experiences all. All my DA revolvers are S&W. I am debating on buying an S&W 625 but I would like to hear opinions on the Ruger.

Thank you.

The only thing Ruger does better then Smith is it's strength. You can shoot nuclear rounds all day and not worry. And Ruger has awesome CS. From what I've read. Haven't had to send one back yet. Post pics of what ever you decide to buy.

The option to use 45 colt is a huge bonus, it makes the difference. Shoot it at the range with 45 acp and if you want some power load some hot 45 colts- it'll make any 44 mags you own obsolete imo . cylinder throats can be undersized , only an issue if you shoot cast and it can easily be reamed if they are tight. Triggers improve with use but can vary a lot between guns.

I've had two.... so let's begin. Accuracy was decent with .45 acp, but excellent with Colt. Moonclips are a good bit more than Smith's moonclips for the 625 though. The great thing about this gun is the ability to run .45 colt loads not just blackhawk level hot but running into .454 casull territory (you can load up to 50k psi, .454 casull pressures are typically 55k, and blackhawk loads typically run into the 32k psi range) while maintaining the ability to practice with (relatively) cheap .45 acp, I have also fired without issue, .45 GAP and .45 Super I never had the chance to shoot .45 Win Mag or .460 Rowland through either of them before I traded them. My main complaint of the redhawk series is the trigger I dont believe any amount of polishing or spring change will make it equal the smoothness of a performance center 625 or one that has had an expert trigger job.

I've found the accuracy with .45 ACP to be lackluster, even at ranges out to 15 yards. .45 Colt is a remarkable improvement in both power and accuracy.

I'm going to see what some hollow base plated Berry's bullets can do with the .45 ACP, my hope is the base will swell enough to get a better seal with the throats and bore. I know it's dumb considering I could use that time to load more accurate .45 Colt, but when I run out of .45 Colt brass it's nice to have all that free .45 ACP brass sitting around at the range.

The grips, if you want to have a more pleasant shooting experience, ought to be replaced with a set of Hogue grips. They make a set now for the round butt framed Rugers.

The single action trigger is poor, but I find the double action trigger very good. Rance Moon makes clips that will fit the Ruger, but they will not be as easy to remove cases as the Ruger clips are. Last time I went shooting with the Ruger clips I was getting a lot of light strikes, so I'm wondering if the Ranch clips may not be better for reliability as they are more rigid and stiffer.

I will never sell or trade mine.

Thank you all very much. I appreciate it.

It looks like no matter what I choose, Ruger or S&W, I will have a wait. I have a gun on consignment to help with my purchase once sold but there are no guns that I am interested in that are available right now.
