Did come across this priceless quote in the Asbury Park Press:

Last year, authorities in Newark, Irvington and Camden seized 114 firearms, up from 86 in 2005. Meanwhile, homicides in Newark have jumped from 65 in 2002 to 113 last year, with nonfatal shootings also on the rise.

Obviously what they're doing is working well.

A judge knocked down a municipal 1/month ordinance, citing both state pre-emption and the fact that a regulation must have some bearing to controlling crime, which had not been shown to be the case w/ 1/month.

It took me 6 weeks to get 4 purchase permits and an FID card.

It still sux but us law-abiding folks will always go through the proper channels, while criminals will just go out and get one.

Whats the problem with one gun a month in Jersey? From what I hear it can take months just to get permission from the local commissar to even buy a gun.

I hope our comrades in the State Politburo really don't think this will reduce crime.

I've always found it folly that people want to band handguns. I recognize that they're the preferred firearm of criminals, but if a handgun ban was implemented AND enforced, you'd force criminals to use sawn-off rifles and shotguns: far deadlier.

One of my Assemblymen was among the four that "abstained" and the other (R) voted "against." Since they're all up for re-election in NJ this November, I think I'll be a republican this time around. The dems have gone off the deep end and need their numbers reduced.

This is an e-mail that assemblyman Michael Carroll sent to his district:

Not surprisingly, be unfortunately, this measure passed the Assembly today.

Interestingly enough, as I read it, it does NOT prohibit a police department from issuing as many pistol permits as one may wish to secure, but only prohibits a retailer from selling more than one gun per calendar month. Hence, as long as you know 10 gun shops -- and the cops aren't annoying -- this bill -- like so many other "gun control" measures -- will mean precisely zip.

I voted against it, along with 24 of my colleagues. I strongly recommend that you consider these legislative votes when casting your own votes, and making political donations. The opponants of freedom will remember; if freedom is important to you, act accordingly.
