I have been listening for a few months now.

While I'm happy there is even a show on the radio about guns, some things definately irk me about this show and I must rant now.

First off, while Tom Gresham is a well spoken, fair host and generally pretty good with callers. He tackles RKBA issues well and gives good advice on CCW and other issues. However, there is a whole lot of gun stuff he doesn't know - and doesn't mind staying ignorant. Seriously, how could you host a show about guns, and frequently brush off inquiries about guns with "well, I don't know, maybe someone will call in with that info" or "I don't have any interest in those kinds of guns". Well, crap, why have a host if WE'RE supposed to be the knowledge base?

For instance, he sure knows his hunting rifles. That's great - a lot of guys who call in are hunters. But, let someone call in about a FN-FAL or a Galil and he goes deer-in-the-headlights stupid. Now, don't get me wrong I don't know everything about guns, but show me an A-Bolt Medallion & I'll tell you all about it. Show me a CETME, and I can do the same. Why have a host who knows alot about one facet of shooting, yet is utterly ignorant of a great majority of other guns & uses for them? Heck, there are guys in this forum who know WAY more than he does about all kinds of guns.

Another thing that gets me wound up about that show is that every other week they have Martin Niner from M-Pro7 as a guest, or Anthony Imperato, the president of Henry Arms. That I even know these people's names tells you I've heard them on that show WAAAAAYYYYYY too much. I shouldn't know who they are. Aren't there any other companies to talk to? Aren't there other experts to call in? We had our very own Oleg on the show a while back, and that was great....but all to often they just keep repeating the same show.

Anyway...that's my whine. Anyone have any thoughts on the show?

Ok....thanks for pointing that out.

Tom, love the show but you should hang around THR some more and in doing so I'd guarantee you'd learn all about black rifles, old military guns, bump firing, small calibers and all kinds of things out of your interests.

Oh, and howzabout we skip the next four appearances with M-Pro7 guy and interview Jeff Cooper or talk to someone at Sig Arms. ;)

"Well, crap, why have a host if WE'RE supposed to be the knowledge base?"

Well, maybe it's to help encourage people to call in and share their ideas and their knowledge? Maybe it's about the audience and not about Tom Gresham?

I have spoken to Tom once or twice and corresponded with him from time to time (not recently however) and have found him to quite knowledgeable and friendly. It's difficult to know EVERYTHING about firearms and shooting so maybe it's better to have a guy who doesn't try to pretend that he knows it all. I trust someone more who can say every now and then "I don't know about that." then someone who always has an expert answer.

Nope. Can't get a straight answer as to which station it might be on. Living in the DC/NoVa area means there are a lot of stations to check.

Since being banished to Aleutian Hell I have to listen live over the net or archived shows.

Mr. Gresham if you're reading this, I'll second a Jeff Cooper interview and raise you a Clint Smith interview.:D

Come on now - if he interviewed Jeff, all Jeff would do is pimp the Steyr Scout.

I'm kidding...
Maybe.
;)

Tom is a member in good standing here.... sure he has some more regular guests... but it's still interesting listening. I have to listen to the Archives... but I still listen. Looking at the list you see lots of repeat names. Ted Nugent has been on more than once too. Hey, he can bring Ted on any time.

I think an interesting interview would be Alex Robinson of RobArms... the maker of the M96. Get him on the air and point out a minor flaw in the rifle, then disagree with him slightly on a small issue and listen to Alex go critical mass.

Don't get me wrong I like the show alot. I listen every week and enjoy it. Tom has a great manner and knows his stuff, but my beef is that there are parts of the shooting world that he could keep up on, but I think he has zero interest in them and that's that. If he doesn't like AR's or AK's, that's fine but I think getting paid to field questions or to give advice demands that you brush up on even designs or makes that you don't personally care for. Is that out of line?

How hard is it to get some basic working knowledge of different actions or makes? I know the workings of many guns I don't personally care for or own....and I think that's true of alot of us.

When you rely on people to call in with answers to other callers questions - as the show often does, you run the risk of answers that are just plain wrong. That's my impression of the show many times, hence my post. It's not an indictment, just an observation.

Always respect a guy who says "I don't know" than one who baffles with bull****.
I have had other issues with the show but need to check it out to see if anything has changed.
