Im considering relocating to Maryland's eastern shore (worcester county). I have some extended family there but they are not hunters or shooters. I was wondering about things like hunting and places to shoot around the region.

Are there any gun clubs or public rifle ranges around? (worcester/wicomico/somerset counties in particular)

Are the state WMAs good places to hunt?

What type of hunting is popular in the region? (waterfowl? upland? deer?)

I know Maryland isn't very gun friendly, but since the eastern shore is still mostly rural I assume there is still a strong hunting culture there?

Thanks!

I grew up there and have a lot of family in the area. There is a strong hunting tradition throughout MD. The shore has a lot of deer hunting and waterfowl hunting. The whole area is getting monstrously built up compared to even a few years ago. A great many of the farms and woodlands that were prime hunting area are now suburbia.

Dorchester county (righty next to Wicomico) is probably the most rural and back-woods (not quite to say backwards) part of the area and opening day you'll see a sea of orange. :)

I've never hunted deer on public lands in the state, but we did shoot ducks in the state marshes on the bay -- which is an experience to treasure if you can ever get the chance to go.

Do be careful and aware of the laws. They do suck pretty darned bad. I've lived there during several periods of my life ... but I won't be back.

My parents had a "summer" house down there years ago. As far as hunting, there are thousands of acres of public hunting land there. My parents place was in Somerset County, near Fairmount. The WMA there was loaded with big deer. The only problem was not enough hunters to move the deer around! Lots of good waterfowl spots in the area as well. Here is the Md. DNR site. Get familiar with Md. laws and you wont regret it.
