Double set triggers cause longer lock times than single set ones. Set triggers add a mechanical movement time for each stage or set configuration. Single stage triggers enable best marksmanship because the rifle needs to be held still the shortest amount of time after their single mechanical disengagement happens. Each additional engagement adds time before the firing pin first moves.
I can well imagine the mechanical menagerie a reliable double set trigger would be for a semiauto rifle. Rube Goldberg could probably make one with two dozen moving parts. There's a couple custom single stage ones around. Check this out:
