Hey, one of my good friends asked me to purchase her some pepper spray, it was a sort of trade we made. Anyway, I wanted to get the best thing out there for her. I've read a little bit about the kimber pepper blaster and it seems pretty solid. Yet it seems a little big, plus it only has two shots, which is kind of weird for a $40 device. Anyway, if anyone has one or has something better in mind, let me know. It needs to be easy to use and fit in a purse. My friend is not a gun gal at all, so nothing ubertactical.

She could do what I and my mom do (myself, in addition to other provisions)...Pepperblaster carried where/when convenient, Spitfire (small, keychain unit, detaches, fires from horizontal position, refillable=good for dogs, cheaper) EDC on keychain.

Alternately, and she may say you're weird for suggesting a water bottle as a striking instrument, you could suggest one of these:

that's the 18oz, still light enough when full for a female to swing, and still strong/stout enough when empty to do damage.

JShirley got me started thinking about the water bottle as defensive weapon, and he advocates simply using a full plastic water bottle...but the Klean Kanteen is better on the environment, can be used when empty, and - most importantly - imparts more force than the forgiving plastic on the disposables...which is useful if you're female and can't put as much force in to begin with.
