Hi all:

I've been asked for recommendations by not one, but three different friends for an inexpensive, reliable and reasonably well built HD Pump 12 Ga. For those who only want to spend a few hundred dollars, I've been recommending the Maverick 88 Security, which I know is a pretty decent shotgun for very little money. Not pretty, fancy or interesting, but they get the job done and tend to run pretty well.

I'm intrigued by these relatively new Tokarev shotguns, I've seen a few reviews, but I've never seen one in real life or shot one. Anyone here own one or at least had a chance to shoot one? How are they? Seems like Wood furniture and a ghost ring sight for around the same money as the basic Maverick is intriguing. My experience in general with Turkish modern guns has been pretty good, they seem like a great value.

I have a Beretta 1301 Tactical and a S&W M&P12 but nobody I know because they aren't "into" guns like I am wants to spend that kind of money for casual home defense it seems so I need the best recommendation for them and I am interested in this Tokarev versus the Maverick 88.

Thoughts?

The Maverick 88. Made in Texas, US customer service. Very reliable in my experience. You can get 7 in the tube for 250 bucks with the security model. Not that I have anything against turkish shotguns, I own several, but when talking bang for the buck for home defense, the Maverick 88 cant be beat.

Yes, agreed, the Maverick 88 Security is a good choice and I know it can take a lot of abuse and keep running.
This Tokarev intrigues me because for roughly the same money, you are getting Walnut furniture, a nice recoil pad and hi-viz decent ghost ring sights.

Furniture is a personal choice but probably at least another $100 inc. sights and labor to upgrade the sights on the Maverick. I do like the
hi-viz Ghost Ring sights for an HD shotgun, trying to find a tiny bead in the dark, if you even have time and room to aim, can be difficult.
Choices are always good. To my family and friends, I would always tell them to go to a gun shop and compare two or three competitors.

My peeve about the Turkish shotguns is that while they seem great value for the price, the warranties is short and it seems every imported batch is a different model number. Spare parts are virtually unobtainable after the warranty runs out.

Here is the response I received when my SDS BP12 broke about 600 rounds after they had repaired it under warranty (they paid shipping both ways but did not extend the warranty for the ~6 weeks they had it).
We no longer import the M12 so if the part is not listed on the website it cannot be sold either. We have to request warranties from our manufacturer and can only do so if the customer has a receipt that is within warranty. There is nothing I can do.

I had a Turkish shotgun. I could not find chokes to fit it had odd threads. Another that was defective new. I'd go Maverick or 870.

I have the shotgun being discussed but have not shot it yet. Looks and feels nice for whatever that is worth. The chokes are Benelli, I believe.

Hello,
I have the Tokarev in the marine finish. I added the 1 round tube extension from the Tokarev website.
This is a great shotgun. I have more than 75 rounds through it. It is accurate, and the pump action is smooth.
I highly recommend this shotgun.

Thanks for your first impression Seaboss. It would be good to hear back from you once you have a few hundred more rounds through it. The features seem great
but as others in this and other threads have pointed out, the Turkish shotguns often have shorter warranties and not as many options for warranty work if
the shotgun breaks when compared to something like the Maverick.
