I'm looking at taking my CHL class here in the next few weeks, and had heard good things about M & W. (www.mwchltraining.com)

I know nothing about these guys, and don't have a specific company/instructor that I'm tied to. Does anyone have a good experience that they'd like to recommend? I'm in the Denton area, and would like to stay within 30 miles.

You might want to visit Texas CHL Forum.

One gent goes by the handle of Greybeard is in the Denton/Flower Mound area and at least two of the folks who are active or Moderators here are in Denton.

May be a bit of a drive for you, but several of use have used the Bullet Trap in Plano: http://www.bullettrapinc.com/.

I found their instruction to be first rate. The one thing I really appreciated is the fact they don't entertain hypothetical situations, which keeps the class moving along. No, "hypothetically speaking, if I'm attacked by a toy poodle and I..." sort of stuff.

Have fun - I'm sure most of the recommendations you'll get on here are going to be for places with good reputations.

Take care,

I second the bullet trap if the instructor is DAVE HAMMERS. He did my requalification class and also my GFs one day CHL class. He is a no non-sense kind of instructor that makes things nice and simple to understand. No mall ninja kind of stuff.

He is a good guy to deal with.

I took mine at Alpine Gun Range. Not sure how often the class takes place but the class is a one day affair and the instructor is a knowledgeable guy. The whole experience was enjoyable as it could have been, I guess and he has a notary that comes in at the end of the day and takes care of that aspect of it and the instructor does all the photography and fingerprinting there on site.

that's my $0.02..
