Does anyone with old Guns and ammo mags remember an article by Ross Seyfried about a .577 bland revolver? Would have probably been in the early to mid 90s. If anyone has that issue and can at least give me the date so I can search for a copy or better yet, be willing to scan the article please let me know.

Thanks,

Tim

Yup I Got It

:) Tim,
The article you seek is called " Giant Stoppers" and starts on page 25 of a special edition of " Guns & Ammo" magazine. The issue was called " High-Power Handguns". It does not have a month date on it but it has "Display Until December 4,1995" on the cover. It is one of the very few magazines that I kept up with. It has some good stuff about Linebaugh guns and the monster handcannons of J.D. Jones. If you want me to scan the article about the .577 Bland revolver please P.M. me with your email and I will try to get it done after work tomorrow.

Yeah, I should have bought that issue. Though I remember it as only being a few years ago.

I believe it was a Bland-Pryse break top that could throw a 450 gr. ball at 800 FPS.

The article I'm thinking of just covered the Bland-Pryse no other guns were part of the piece.

I too would like to see a copy of this other article.

Thank you Fiveshooter that was an excellent read.

Not the one I read though, probably the same guy wrote it. The aricle I read just dealt with the .577

This article though covered all the points of the one I read and had info on that Howdah pistol. So cool.

Man oh man I want a .577.................sigh.............

Bowen Classic Arms did a .577 revolver

I think it was built on a RedHawk frame. Other than being a conversation piece I doubt if there was much use for it.

:) Colt46,
The Bowen Redhawk in .577 is shown and discussed in the article as well as the Tranter. I cant say as I would have use for one especially when you consider what such a peice would cost. I don't think there is anything that either of these guns could do that a .500 Linebaugh could not do better. If you wanted a bigger hole you could just load a light H.P. bullet in the 50 AE and get a bigger hole.

A thousand thanks

Wow just got the article. Thanks a million. It's exactly the article I remember having although I think my copy was in a regular guns and ammo mag and was probably re-inserted in the special edition you have. I think I'd remember having that awesome magazine you describe.

You are welcome Tim

It was another article in that same magazine that eventually led to me having the gun below built.

Bowen has some pictures and text on that 577 pryse in his book, The Custom Revolver." That is a good book. Has Seifreid's ultimate 475, the revised Keith Number 5 and a number of others that have been featured in articles over the last 20 years or so.
