OMG my wife and i were watching thirdwatch (a cop show) fridaynight, i have loved this show from the start.
well in one part this guy is shooting a revolver, and you hear, tink, tink, the sound of brass hiting the floor.
this must be some new auto eject revolver.

how dumb do they think the general public is. (barring my spelin)
my wife eaven noticed it.

Funny, I didn't hear it either but I wouldn't be surprised. Actors are the last group to know anything about guns...

So let's see, Joey the fire fighter has left the show -- so much for a reunion with his ex because she gave the ring back. I thought he was going to die in the fire, but no, just dumped. Is he taking an office job now? Who would have thought Doc would leave the show and under these circumstances...:what:

Actually, this would be the fault of either the foley artist or the editors. Actors have nothing to do with the audio sweetening done in post-production.

Both my fiancee and I noticed the brass hitting the floor. If you watched the scences from next weeks episode, you would have heard the announcer say "Don't miss the very end of it all." or something very close to that. Given the way the show has been going over this season, and the fact that it has been replaced numerous times with reruns and other specials, I've got a feeling it is about to go off the air permanently. That would suck big time. I love that show.

I was rather unhappy with the way they protrayed it. The lady Officer was the (sorce) of the handgun. There made a big deal about "HOW could he get ahold of a GUN?"
Lets see a Paramedic who works in city for a year would know LOTS of folks/places he could pick up a gun. He likely patched up hundreds of gang bangers/their family who would get him a gun easy. Heck I would bet money I could go to any major city and buy a black market gun in less then a day. ANY day of the week. (likely at 3x retail.)

i belive it was toward the end of the ordeal when carlos steped in to help the victom.
he knelt down to help him and doc let a round go near carlos and thats when i heard it.
if my memory is correct.
last week i was like whats up with doc and the party.
now we know.

im with larry on the gun. i live in a town of 2000 and could have one in a day or so.

I didnt notice the brass, but I noticed that the SS or HC BHP the mobster was holding to Bosco was not cocked.

Of course improper gun cocking is the most common gun error on TV, but it the BHP aint cocked, you outta go for it.

Hi Power

Bosco wouldn`t know an uncocked HP from a ham sandwich.:what: Nice touch though using the HP.

I guess Michael Beach (Doc) got a better offer. He`s the best actor on the show. I think Sasha (the cutie who lost her gun) is toast as the dysfunctional Bosco & Yokus get back together. I don`t think it`s the show`s finish as there`s too many soap opera plots unresolved.

The producers may be going the way of Law & Order. Change the actors, not the show.

As a retired member of the NYPD it`s like watching a train wreck. There are so many inaccuracies revolver cases falling to the floor is comic relief.:banghead:

I tape the show, actually I tape several so when I can`t sleep it`s better than watching yak throwing from Tibet or worse, college baseball at 3 a.m. :p

Double Action

There`s a new model out that is I think. However, that was a P35 on the show.

Hey dinosaur, what is your problem with Yak Throwing.
I proudly bear the grand exalted gold and hairy fistula
for a throw of 36.646 meters at the winter games in
Katmandu in 2003.
:neener: :D

grampster,

36.646 meters? It's easy to see thing have changed since my days as a competitive Yak Tosser. Why, in my day, the Yaks were bigger, there wasn't any steroid use like there is nowadays, and there weren't any sponsers paying for your training Yaks. We had to raise our training Yaks ourselves! Hmph, 36.646 meters! :p

I can only imagine the inaccuracies a retired NYPD would see.

Most techies groan anytime anything computer related is portrayed - although it is getting better - barely.

As for Bosco not knowing the BHP - that is possible, but he was trying to get into the SWAT or whatever it was a while back - you would think you would learn something.

Doc really was the best acted character - he has been very "off" since about the time Taylor dies although really - after that M.D. lady left him, he started to slip. They did a good job of slowly making you think "that boy aint right" without over doing it.

I did think it was interesting that Sasha noticed that her "off duty gun" had gone missing so soon. Does she carry it on the way to work?

She is easily the smartest and nicest of the cops - she does not have the hardness of the others - it will be interesting to see what this does to her.

Also - anyone notice that Scully still caries what looks like a 5" Model 10?

Would they let you do that? Stick with a wheelie?

That was you guys?

You both look shorter on TV!:neener:

Sully is carrying a 4" Model 10-5 most likely. The NYPD changed to semis in Jan. 1994 with wheelguns grandfathered in. There are a few holdouts left.

I can tell you this. Sully`s gun with the pencil barrel is a no no. When his character was "hired" which would have been in the 80`s heavy barreled M&Ps were sold at the Equipment Section. Thin barrels weren`t authorized by that time because of the +P issue ammo.

Now Sasha`s gun, and I looked at it real good, is a 3" Model 64 DAO with a bobbed hammer. They started with them in the mid 80`s as duty and off duty guns. This came about because of negligent discharges with the gun cocked. The thing is before that the first day of range training in the Academy was all single action.

I had forgotten about the 3" version and I don`t know if and when they stopped authorizing them for off duty use.

When I was a rookie it was common practice to stash the off duty gun in the wife/girlfriends purse. Probably the dumbest move ever. If you started a thread on off body carry I`d bet 99% of the responses would range from "Never" to "What`re you nuts?"

I just don`t like Bosco. Even with Hollyweird`s poetic license he`d be either locked up or on the Rubber Gun Squad pending a psych eval.

Do you recall Beach was on E.R.:barf: as the husband who gave his wife AIDs? An underrated actor who`ll never be Snipes but maybe a young Freeman or Jackson.

I just started to watch this show...I like it,even tho it has some inaccuracies with regards to guns...I thought the sound we heard was maybe a riccocet??But you're probably right,it could've been a case hitting the ground.....you'd think they'd have a "gun guy" doing the sound effects....

3rd watch has used sounds of ejected brass in revolvers before. couple seasons back (two?) yokis was with her daughter in a bank when it was robbed, and at the end she picked up one of the dead robbers wheelguns and unloaded. *BOOM! ke-ching BOOM! ke-ching*

i used to really like that show but i'm bored with it.

What are the hours of the third watch. My wife asked me if that wouldn't be starting around midnight. If so, why does the show take place during daylight?

Or does "third watch" refer to something other than a particular shift?

A good question

The NYPD doesn`t have watches. They have tours. 1st tour 12x8 (midnights), 2nd tour 8x4 (days), 3rd tour 4x12 (evenings). I heard though I`m not sure that the show is/was written by a Chicago cop. Go figure.

You think you`re confused? There is no 55 pct. and if there was it would be located in the Bronx near Westchester County. The show is based in Manhatten however when Bosco & the female Sgt. went to rescue her sister from the big bad biker they went to Far Rockaway which is on the Nassau County border in Queens!:what:

Ok, you say "Well, they`re still in NYC, right?" Yep but when they called for help how come the help had to come all the way from their Manhatten pct which in traffic takes from 45 minutes to an hour and a half?

I try not to pay attention to the locations anymore. It`s like they`re in a small town of 8 million people.:banghead:

It`s a really big train wreck!:D

So did anyone watch this train wreck Friday night?

Oh My Gawd! Between the "Teflon filled bullets", the arsenal of full autos and the shootout, NBC missed its chance get get the AWB extended.:neener: Blame the socialists in Congress for ahem, jumping the gun  What a stupid show!:banghead:

OK so it's a year plus resurrection.

Now that the show is over, in spite of the inaccuracies I actually think it is one of the better series at showing the PEOPLE and their personal trials and tribulations than most police shows. Besides where else are you gonna see someone actually use a Jay-Pee holster?

Especially since it's really not a cop show. I can't think of any show that portrayed paramedics or firemen as well. Even in the 60s Emergency was just another ham handed Jack Webb cartoon.

I had never watched the show until I was imprisoned in that nursing home last year. Now I have seen every episode and am actually sorry to see it gone. I think it had another year or so of life left.

With NYPD Blue gone there ain't a decent cop show on the air anymore.

Where's Sledge Hammer when you need him?

I haven't watched the last four episodes as I have them on DVR. I'll get around to them soon. I hear Bosco went to the 79 Pct! What a hole! He'll get a chance to meet the Rev. Al in person there. :p

You're right about no more good cop shows but that was said when Hill St. Blues went off the air too.

As anti gun as they can be I like BBC America's Monday Night Mysteries. Right now though they're showing a cop slowly going blind. Sound familiar? It seems to have been made around 1998 so I think we've found out where that show that took NYPD Blues' place.

Yikes! I can't stand Blind Justice. What a crock of :barf:

I'd rather watch Law & Order Playground Patrol.
Or is that Law & Order Hall Monitor?
I get them confused.

At least Crossing Jordan is still on. Gotta love Jill Hennessy.

I do, however, watch Thin Blue Line on BBC America :D

Third Watch was one of only two shows on my 'watch list', with the other being Jeopardy (at least I learn something there.)

I may have to start watching The Shield. I hear it's gotten good reviews, although my impression from the commercials is that the Michael Chikliss character is right on the edge of going to prison half the time.
