It's the cutest little thing. Looks sort of like a .50 BMG for a GI Joe action figure.

I have very little use for the FN pistol or submachine gun, but I think I could have a place for that round.

What about a bolt gun, about the size of a full size .22 rimfire; like a Remington 581 or a Ruger 77/22, but chambered for the FN 5.7 round? It would be sort of a 22 Hornet on steroids. (Can I say that here?) With cast bullets, proper cases, small rifle primers and rather little powder, the reloads would be both cheaper and more powerful than .22 WMR. With Hornady 35 and 40 grain VMax jacketed rounds, it would probably do most varmints (up to coyote size, anyway) critters.

Anyone else interested?

It would not do anything in that application a 22 hornet could not so why bother. I see it as a neat semi auto pistol round for small game not for self defense. Now an autoloading rifle for it like a 10-22 on steroids would be nice. There are no 22 hornet autos due to the rim design.

I thought the same thing after recalling all the 5mm conversions done to the left for dead [by remington] rimfires in 5mm. Still think the round is JUST like a short 22 mag. HMM......... 22wssm :p

It is rather cute, aint it...

But expensive  :cuss: ...I would buy a 10/22 in 5.7 in a heart beat...even at 5.56x45 ammo prices :scrutiny: :)

The 5.7x28mm cartridge really has no practical application in a long gun. There are umpteen rounds already chambered in rifles that meet or exceed (often by far) the 5.7's performance. It's conception was to provide a very high capacity, high cyclic rate SMG that could penetrate body armor better than other contemporary pistol-caliber SMG's. This it does, but no more. The purpose of the Five-seveN pistol was to be an ammunition compatible sidearm. It is about the maximum practical length for a cartridge that goes inside the grip. As others have said, it won't do anything better than a .22 Hornet, let alone .221 fireball on up. Since rifles don't generally house ammunition in the grip, it's short length isn't really advantageous. I'll keep my Hornet.
