Hmm, I missed that, the barrel band I could live without (but is definitely preferred), but BUIS would be very nice on a dangerous game rifle. I don't know if I am willing to do without iron sights. Thanks again, Mav. :)

JP, that does look nice, but as much as I like Winchester, that model doesn't have CRF with a claw extractor, which is a feature that I am not willing to part with. :)

Amen, MPH; if it were any other rifle it wouldn't bother me one bit...and for some rifles I prefer a push feed. :)

Update: I have since changed my mind as to the cartridge that I want the rifle chambered in. I have decided to chamber the rifle in .375H&H Magnum and convert my Browning 1885 High Wall from .45-70Govt. to .45-120Sharps, thus permitting me the a nice thunder-stick as well as a more practical repeater with CRF. The .375H&H should be more than adequate for any hunt in NA (including large bear) as well as have a more favorable trajectory, allowing me to use it for moderate range deer/elk/moose/et cetera.

I have also determined that I want a Mauser action (mostly due to nostalgia) and am therefore excluding the CZ-550 from the competition. I also have been unable to find a 22" bbl/RealWood version of the Remington 798 chambered in .375H&H, though it is certainly a possibility if one should turn up. However, in my quest I recently discovered that Midway-USA is planning to carry (supposedly will be in-stock tomorrow) Large Ring Magnum Mauser actions (made by Zastava), so I may be building my own Mauser in the upcoming few weeks. Can anyone suggest components, and where to buy them, for the build? So far my list includes this action, this stock, and perhaps this trigger w/ side safety. Unfortunately I cannot find a Mauser barrel in .375H&H at all. Also if anyone has any further advice I am all ears, Mav. :)

Safety: I recommend going with a three position safety such as . . . http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=877219

Barrel: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=..._1_12_Twist_CM__5_Contour_Ultra_Rifled_Barrel

Be sure to read this. Nice overview:

Boyds Stocks: That stock will need reinforcing bolts. I have split Boyds stocks twice in the last year with 8x57 JS, albeit without having installed reinforcing bolts for the recoil lug and tang area. I think 375 H&H would be dangerous.

I am glad to see Zastava actions back on the market. They take pressure off of the dwindling milsurp actions for conversions. The prices are certainly higher. I paid $189 for a barreled action, albeit a few years ago.

Thank you for the information MPH, I am not a big fan of the 3pos. safety (the primary reason that I wanted to swap trigger groups), but I am willing to give it a shot before converting it. Good thinking with the reinforcing bolts, it will definitely need them. Even with two reinforcing bolts, do you think the stock will hold up? By any chance do you know where I can find a barreled action (or even just a barrel) in .375H&H? I can't find one anywhere, and a custom Kreiger, et cetera is not in the budget (really like to keep it sub-$1k...which will be difficult). :banghead:

MPH, that is exactly what I want...you're the man! I just hope they still have one in stock.
