Saw in the latest Guns&Ammo issue that the S&W 1911 has been nominated for handgun of the year. I got the impression that this is a faily new offering from Smith. Sounded as though G&A liked the gun. Anyone out there handled and shot one of these pieces? Any opinions good or bad?

I went to the local shop this weekend to look at a Sig P220. After all the positive posts here on the gun I figured I had to check them out. Big chunky gun for sure although it felt good in my hand. Then I asked the guy behind the counter if I could rack the slide and check out the trigger. He said sure so I did. Man I couldn't believe how long the takeup (don't know if that's the correct term or not) was on the trigger. It was far worse than my Beretta 92FS.
I won't buy one for that reason. I don't believe I could ever get used to it.

I guess I'm gonna look for a 1911 style gun. I have read here that the triggers are much better on these guns. I think I would shoot better with a shorter pull trigger. I know I do with my rifles. Think I'll look at Kimber and Springfield. Any other suggestions? What's the difference between the 1911 and 1911A1?

I bought this one last spring. $660 + tax. I really enjoy it. Shoots great...

Trigger was a sloppy fit on mine and needed replaced. Other than that, I just shoot the heck out of it.

Good Luck...

My only gripe was the grip safety, with that extra itty bitty spring or safety whatnot on the inside. Other than that it was nice, comparable to my SA Loaded.
