Hi All,

I've become a fan of Prvi Partizan (Serbian ammo maker) 5.56x45 mm in my 16" AR-15 carbine. I have shot a lot of their M193 ball and M855 green tip, and both are fine stuff. Accurate, good power, no problems.

Now I am seeing some decent deals on their sporting .223 55 gr Soft Point loading. Here is the item in question (link is to Midway, which does not have a good price and is out of stock, but illustrates the product):

I thought this might be a good bulk hunting/varmint round if the AR needed to be pressed into that role.

Any experience using Prvi soft point (or other brand) in your ARs? Did it function well? Is leading a concern?

Thanks!

I sometimes reload using the Winchester 50gr PSP for my AR. I only got them beacuse they were very very cheap on Ebay a couple years ago. You won't get any leading because the base is covered by the jacket and the tip doesn't come in contact with anything. Other then your feed ramp, I should mention. I get a little dent on the bullet tip followed by a small scratch on the exposed lead. I'm sure it has some effect, but I haven't noticed any reduced accuracy. Function is excellent, not one jam or otherwise because of the soft point. If the price is right, I'd get them!

I've reloaded several thousand rounds of soft-point ammo for AR's, for shooting prairie dogs. Never any feeding or functioning issues, and great accuracy from both 16" and 24" barrels. My experience with Prvi AR ammo has all been positive.
