I was considering buying one off atlantic firearms http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct788.aspx

Soumi.jpg

Comes with a 71 round drum! I was thinking about a hi point carbine in 9mm or 40s&w but if this thing is as good, I would pick the suomi for increased capacity.

Has anyone bought one of these? I want a gun that I can count on. I do not want to end up with a lemon..

As a history buff I'd buy one in a second as long as they were made well. The Finn's fought so well in that war, it would be very cool to own some of the tools that made it possible.

Our local SOT had a semi auto one. It was on its 2nd or 3rd sear as they were way too soft. Fortunately, the failure mode was FTF, not going full auto. Until they get the sear problem solved I would steer clear. BSW

As another poster mentioned, these things are not a light, handy little carbine, they are HEAVY.
I don't think I could lift it with a loaded 71r drum mag attached:uhoh:
They are cute, though.

I got a semi-auto Sterling (which I love!) for similar reasons as why you are looking at this Suomi. It would be fun to get cheap 71 round drums and have a knock-off of (one of the) guns that Simo Hayha rocked the Russians with.

I have not shot one of these Suomis but I have been doing research on them for a while. They are heavy (10+ pounds). Some people had had some issues with some of the early release models but it seems that is worked out now. For $400 it seems like it could be a fun buy - everyone needs a "fun gun".
