Anyone try Hornady Zombie Bullets?

Bought a box a few weeks ago. Cabela Bucks to burn + clearance price = zombie Max. Honestly, they were the cheapest SD round on the site that day. $16.
God knows what the court will think of that if you ever have to use them for self defense. :neener:

I think they are a great idea!! I love the zombie concept and I think the Z MAX bullets are a fun for us shooters, a nice change of pace from all the tacticool crap. Heck I bought the Spikes Tactical Zombie lower for my SBR build! and a box of .223 z max to feed it :D Sooo it seems to be working! Excellent marketing Hornady! IMO

I tried them on some zombies and they worked, though they might have just been teenagers dressed like zombies.

Cali politicians are zombies, and the intelligent gun owners understand where it is heading....stock up....:what:
Yes we still can if they help.......four more years come to mind. The ammo is great I luv the box it comes in too and I'm pretty ole' now.

I'm already sick of all of this Zombie crap. Hornady may make a few bucks on it in the begining but they may regret it in the long run. I've personally have lost repect for the company. Just wait till someone gets shot with "zombie ammo" or a "zombie gun" under circumstances that are even the slightest bit questionable and some prosecuter is going to have a field day with it. Might even drag Hornady into it... All in all a bad idea...

If any of you are old enough to remember the old PF Flyers ads, "They'll make you run faster, jump higher". The other old adage, "A fool and his money are soon parted." The economic blahs must be hitting Steve and his bunch too.

I guess since Winchester already had the Werewolf market cornered with thier Silver Tips, Hornady decided to corner the Zombie market. Maybe Speer can take on Vampires and Federal can take on Mummies.

It's works perfectly well in my S&W 457-s. I would not pay attention to ole' grandpas with 1911s
most have no sense of humor and their faces would crack if they smiled.

The guy at my lgs told me they were identical to the CD except for the tip is green. I bought some as a keep sake.

I got some for Christmas for my AK-47. It is steel cased 7.62x39 with yellow tips. The literature on the box is hilarious. This is a clever and humorous marketing ploy.

I want to use my AK as a home defense rifle and right now this Z-Max stuff is the only decent defensive ammo I have on hand so I'll have to load it, even though I'm a little apprehensive because of the way it is marketed. Even though I doubt that would be admissible in court, but you never know. I'll just load the mags and hide the boxes. ;)

Ballistic tips aren't my first choice for rifle rounds anyway, I prefer soft points.

I was wandering around the Dallas Safari Club Convention and stopped to chat with the Hornady reps for a while. I noticed they had a letter sized ad poster for the z-max. I grabbed a copy and threw it in a cheap frame I had lying around. Who knows maybe some descendant of mine will end up on Antique Roadshow with it one day... lol

Are people really this serious about a themed box surrounding some differently colored ammo? Have some of you really lost any kind of perspective?
It's a JOKE! Why are you winding yourself up over a THEMED BOX! What's next? Are we going to propose some legislation that all guns from now on must be painted in drab grey so nobody ever gets to smile at them again, or even worse ... so they elicit any kind of positive emotion? Serious business calls for serious looks. I'd better not see any of you nay-sayers smile at the range.

Tell them it was a zombie. If they question that, then tell them to prove it wasn't. :D

This is fantastic. I really tried to get a bunch for friends around Christmas, sadly- all sold out !

Marketing genius, give that guy a raise.

Redjacket does more damage to gun owners' reps in 30 minutes of showtime than these rounds will in (hopefully) a lifetimes' offering on the shelf. (not that we have to worry about that crew for much longer....but their horrible legacy, like BIAS and GSR testimony....will live with us forever.)

Anything ANYTHING that can attract a younger audience or those not normally affiliated with guns into the fold-even if only for a discussion perhaps- is worth its weight in gold.

Dispelling myths of SAVAGE AMMO and BLACK RIFLES through humor such as this is really excellent stuff. Was that their intent : surely not. Will it happen : surely so.

Thanks team H, job well done !

I understand the marketing angle but I think it's a bad idea on several levels...one of which is that a clever opinion writer, lobbyist, or politician will eventually latch onto it as "proof" that the gun culture is populated by dangerous unintelligent people who think zombies are an actual danger. Despite the rest of us who are clued into the gimmick, the masses will believe what they are told.

I shot one round out of my Ed Brown .45 and one round out of my AR.

That's probably the only time I'll ever use the ammo, unless of course........

if it ain't broke don't fix it

I've found the time tested Hornady XTP handgun and Interlock rifle bullets to work just fine on Zombies.

I'll just stick with what I have and not try the designer zombie specific loads. :scrutiny:

I'm somewhat surprised that so many persons have gotten their knickers in a knot over something that was intended totally as a publicity gag and promotional event. Kudos to Hornady for their cleverness and I have really gotten a kick out of so many old-timers and perception freaks getting wound up about it. Calm down a bit, and take it for what it is... a pretty clever ad campaign.

In case you guys haven't noticed, zombies are the flavor of the month in pop culture, and I find it very refreshing that an old-line company like Hornady actually has a sense of humor. It would be great if everyone else did too.

Lighten up, Francis....

Ron in Texas, laughing as he puts away a few boxes for posterity :D

I bought some for several reasons:

I believe that the Hornady Critical Defense ammo is good self defense ammo, and the Zombie Max ammo is basically the same stuff.

The price was right.

And the zombie theme box gave me a chuckle. :D
