Anyone use a Lyman peep on a Model 70?

Lyman makes good stuff, though their sight use aluminum bases where the older ones were steel. Is your 70 a new one, or one of the older ones that's alreadt D&T'ed for a receiver sight? Whether or not you have to remove the scope base depends on the height of your front sight.

I have peeps on all my guns, operationally the new aluminium Lyman peeps work as well as the old steel ones, but the old steel ones do look better on classic guns (IMHO). On my 1952 M70 in .30-06 sighted in for a six o'clock hold on the 8 ring at 100 yards the sight is up far enough to clear a Weaver scope base. I have actually thought about changing the front sight insert so that I could lower the apeture closure to the receiver, but it doesn't seem to make any difference so I always neglect to do it. I love shooting with peep sights, good gun, good sights, enjoy.
