Thinking of making up a hunting load for my old Marlin relined to 45-70. It doesn't stabilize 405 gr bullets. But does well (1.5" at 100 yards) with the old 330gr Lyman mold I cast with. But I've seen these pure copper Barnes bullets kill and was thinking of getting a box to use on Elk. At a dollar a piece I won't have much to practice with.
My reloads will be limited to about 1700fps to 1800fps with a 300gr bullet.
Anyone have experience with the Barnes X bullet of 300 grains, .458"dia.?
