I was wondering if anyone had success using Lil Gun powder in the 44 Special?
For accurate mid range loads, cast bullets, not trying to make 44 magum loads.
Is it worth it or should I just stick with old reiliable Unique?
thanks in advance,

I have not, but would think it will be too slow to work well at .44 Spl pressures. I am sure Unique and other midrange, and even faster, powders will do best.

I gotta agree.

Ditto. It seems to me that making a .44 Magnum out of your Special is the one area where Lil Gun might be useful.

For midrange loads I have still found nothing as useful as the traditional Skeeter load of 7.5 grains of Unique.

I also agree that Lil Gun is too slow for the 44 Spl. FWIW, the current #14 Speer Manual doesn't list one load for this caliber with either lead or jacketed bullets. :)

You won't find any data for it in .44 Spl. as it won't burn at the current very low .44 Spl. pressure limit set by SAAMI.

And I agree that it would be very hard to improve on the old "Skeeter Load" of 7.5 Unique/240 SWC.
Which is also above the current SAAMI spec, but proven perfectly safe over the last half century or longer.

It is what the .44 Spl. should have / could have been in the first place.

I have read about it and can not find any of the powder for sale.

See attached.

higene, the document you attached was originally written by John Knutson, and posted on handloads.com (at least as far as I know).

As a friendly reminder, you might want to give them some credit for it...

Bibliography

I always forget the hanging indents on my bibliography too. I didn't take credit for the development and I didn't have a reference handy. I thought he just wanted the information.

I will be more careful in the future,

Higene
