Anyone use the 155 Palma?

Nah, unless you're shooting International Palma, there is no need, and there are better bullets.

I don't shoot Palma, but I know this is a standard answer and I know that people don't use a 155 unless they have to due to rules.

fatelvis,

I've tried it. My Match M1 likes the SMK 150 and 168 much better. Other guys do like it though.

Back in the day before the AR became dominant in Service Rifle Competition, I knew of some folk shooting the 155 at 600 yards and 300 yards. They seemed to think the 155's were the equal of the 168 on paper. I can't recall any of them winning anything big at our matches though.

I played with them for short range 200 and 300 yards, but couldn't get them to shoot as well as other bullets. Even the 150MK did better. I was told it was because of the 155's shorter bearing surface. Any load listed for a 150 should work fine for a 155.

Some guys use the 155 Palmas for the 200yd RFS stage, because less recoil helps them out. They use the same 41.5gn IMR4895 they use for 168's because it's good enough and they are not looking for max V. I could tell you my Palma loads, but it would be extremely unwise for use in anything other than a slow twist long freebore Palama gun. S/F....Ken M

Well, basically the 155g is for long barrels (30" plus) and long range. The BC is quite good and with a long barrel the velocity advantage makes out better than the 168 and 175g. In M1s or M1As, or other short barrel rifles, you will actually lose perf against the 168s and 175s.

Sorry, I have no loads, having decided against the Palma when I learned it would not do 1,000 yards out of an M1A without really pushing the pressures.

But since you asked for load info, I really wish you could get more than just the one load mentioned in this thread. I'm also interested in what performance others have personally obtained with that bullet, whether it be in M1As or bolt guns or Ruger No. 1 rifles. I might want to light-load them for the short lines...

Over the last year or so I started shooting HighPower, and had my Rem700VS tooled up for XTC. The loads that I found worked well in it were Nosler J4 155gr, Lapua cases, CCI BR2 (and Fed 210 GM) primers, and 43.0 gr of Varget for the 200/300 sections. For 600yds I was using 47.5gr Varget, everything else the same. Fairly hot load, but actually *less* than what Nosler has in their latest loading manual (48+). Shot very well for me.

For the short line (300 or less) it should be more than adequate. I used 42grs IMR 4895 (LC brass) for a time.
