Greetings Gents,

Been doing more loading than posting…but wanted to circle back and get some data out there for guys looking for loading success with 4166.

If you found some please share yours.

It wanted to be lit off with a small rifle primer. The best performance I got out of LRPs was Fed 215 Magnum. My unscientific opinion it that it’s hard to light. But velocity curve was flatter with standard primers. But it just shot ok. Potential for accuracy was much better with Palma brass.

Rifle: Savage 308 Frankenstein rifle 21in barrel from a police tactical, HS Precision Stock, Timney Trigger, headspaced to minimum and using a precision ground recoil lug.

Load: 42.8 grains 4166
Brass: Lapua Palma
Primer: CCI 450
Bullet: 178 ELDX
COAL: 2.835
Groups: .3-.5 MOA in Lapua Palma .5-.7 in LRP Lapua brass and about 30 fps slower.
Velocity: 2630 from 21in barrel Lapua Palma

I had tried it in the past I found it to have a very small accuracy window,
But I would not put much effort in to 4166 as it is a discontinued powder

I ran through a couple lbs in my .308 with 150's and 168's, small "node" windows, and the only one I found was closer to start load than max, slow velocity wise, but very accurate in the node. Your 178 velocity is faster than my 168gr accuracy node velocity. I hit pressure before finding accuracy again. It did seem to like CCI 34's the most.
