Just wondering if anyone has used "Blue Wonder" for cleaning copper fouling out of rifle barrels. It is a paste-type cleaner and was highly recommended at the gun range. Just wonder what your experiences with it have been?

I use it and sweet's.Blue wonder is much less offensive smell wise and does a good job cleaning too.All of their products do pretty much as advertised in my experience.

It's not a paste. It's more of a semi-thick translucent ooze. I've been using it since it was first sent out for product testing. It's pretty good stuff. Smells like Pine-Sol. Novum Solutions has sent out testing samples for just about everything they've developed. Stick around the gun boards long enough and you just might get a chance to test out some of the stuff they are working on. They really listen to our feedback.

Blue Wonder vs. Sweet's

Use both regularly. Sweet's is the ultimate COPPER cleaner; none better IMX. Blue Wonder is great for caked-on crud and tough combustion-products in the bore, in other words it is a fine GENERAL cleaner. Neither one works worth a durn on heavy lead deposits; the only way I've been able to remove those is with some form of scraper.

I disagree on the smell issue; they both stink. They work well so I use 'em anyhow. Neither one smells obnoxious enough not to use. If we insist everything we use smell like Chanel #9 we wouldn't use a lot of very useful things which have a strong odor.

You can save your money if you want what's left of the tube I have. In my opinion it doesn't work and makes a big mess. I tried it just to say that I tried it and to see how it works, didn't impress me.

I switched back to Boretech, specifically their new cleaner called Eliminator. The only thing that probably works better on copper removal is 28% aqua ammonia mixed with a little dish soap.

If you want it PM me and I'll send it to you.

Smells like Pinesol. I put my barrel in the oven for a few minutes and swabbed some blue wonder inside with a brass brush and let it sit for about 10 minutes. After that I ran some patches through and those suckers came out pretty damn blue. My barrel almost looks brand new again on the inside.

I have been using it for a couple of years now, I works ok. I run it through the bore, and let it sit for a few hours, seems to work better that way.

Not Impressed

I bought some tubes of it last year, some time. I am not impressed.
I got it specifically to clean out a 1925 Mosin-Nagant 91/30 with STUBBORN copper deposits.
The blue wonder stuff didn't make much of a dent in the deposits at all.
Save your money.

Did you ever find anything that DID work? Would be interested to know if you found something you could recommend......thanks.

Blue Wonder probably won't work with stubborn old deposits, but it will work for regular cleaning. Those old stubborn deposits will probably need a more aggressive approach, alternating between a powder solvent and a copper solvent (And maybe even some JB Bore compound) to remove the accumulated layers of fouling. Once you get the barrel clean, then you can use the Blue Wonder for regular cleaning after your day at the range.

For regular cleaning, I like Sweets, but there are times where I break out the heavy duty stuff. For heavy copper or lead, I use the Outter's Foul Out system. This is the electrolisis cleaner that has a rod in a barrel full of solvent and it works great. It takes a while and doesn't do crap about powder residue and the lead solvent doesn't touch copper and vice vera, but for its intended purpose, its awesome.

Court of last resort

I agree about the Outers Foul Out system. Expensive, time-consuming, but when you got some metal fouling that simply WILL NOT come out...

I got some, tried it, and it works pretty good. Not as good as the foaming stuff, but cleaned the powder and copper fouling out of my chrome lined AR barrels pretty good.

There used to be a product sold at gunshows, especially the shows in the Houston area, called RB-17. Blue Wonder Gun Cleaner is the EXACT SAME THING. I guess the RB-17 guy sold the formula to Novum Solutions, or maybe just renamed the company.

Just my .02,

If the guy sold it (as opposed to a renaming) he sold ALL the attendent rights or whatever you wanna call it.

according to one of my local shops that sold RB-17 and now sells the Blue wonder products (BW cleaner and that "armadillo coat" or whatever it's called protectant), their display/sales stocks of RB-17 were taken down by the sales rep that brought in the first batch of Blue Wonder.

btw i have tried both products and while they are ALMOST identical, the BW i've used was just a slight bit stronger/ more effective. granted the RB-17 bottle looks kinda old..
