So I was looking at the CMP website, and I notice they have Service grade inlands for $495. I always thought the CMP ran out right away and I was wondering if there is something wrong with the inlands? Why is it the cheapest available, etc? Any help or info on this topic and buying a CMP carbine in general would be appreciated.

Inlands were the most produced. CMP has been releasing carbines in batches as they have gotten them processed. Buy in good faith...CMP won't hose you.

Here's the reason (as above poster stated)...many more Inlands made than any other.

M1 Carbine Production

Inland Manufacturing Division, G.M.C...........2,632,097 43.0%
Winchester Repeating Arms Co.....................828,059 13.5%
Underwood-Elliot-Fisher Co..........................545,616 8.9%
Saginaw Steering Gear Div., G.M.C...............517,212 8.5%
National Postal Meter Co.............................413,017 6.8%
Quality Hardware & Machine Co....................359,666 5.9%
International Business Machines Corp (IBM)...346,500 5.7%
Standard Products Co.................................247,160 4.0%
Rock-Ola Co..............................................228,500 3.7%

Total: 6,221,220

My inland CMP is nice! The metal has a new finish and the stock came out good after some cleaning.

I like mine! It'll shoot about 1.25MOA if I do my part, and everyone who shoots it thinks its one of the most fun firearms they've ever used---even compared to an AR15.

As for them running out right away.....they did. They sold 12,000 Inland carbines in about 2 days. Mine was one of the "first run", as I picked it up in person. They've gotten more in, realistically. I just found it amazing that the least valuable version of a firearm that, previously, everyone LOVED to hate, sold 12,000 in 2 days; I don't even think most AR15s do that!

And, just for pictures' sake.....voila! (Safety precautions were followed here!)

CMP rocks!

I bought an Inland, Quality Hardware, IBM and Standard Products.

You might consider a rack grade if you want to save some money. My rack grade QH, looks as good as the other service grade M1's.

Do they have to be shipped to an FFL like most other firearms or do they ship them to your door?

The reason I ask is because I didnt notice an area for FFL information on the order form.

By the way.....yall got me real interested the the M1 Carbine

Oh...and can it handle modern factory loaded ammo

They have special legislation that allows them to be shipped directly to your door, FFL hassle free! :D :) :D

Problem in general though, Does anyone have ammo? I can't find any.

I looked on MidwayUSA and they should have some in on the 24th of this month.

It's pretty cool that you can have it shipped right to your door.....guess I know what I'm savin my money for.....

I got about 500 rounds of .30 Carbine from Georgia Arms, their "Canned Heat" option. I had to wait for a little bit, but their ammunition and quality is superb. It's performed flawlessly out of my rifle.

Nope. The C&R license are for people who want their collectible guns shipped to them. It's a special type of FFL.

You don't need one for the CMP.

What have you done concerning the required paperwork?

Nothin yet....just tryin to figure out everything before I do it.....that and I got to get a little more money....hopefully I can get that taken care of this weekend

Great info guys, thanks for the reassurance. I am going to investigate further. Good to know its just an issue of availability and demand, and not quality!
