Apartment Manager Freak-out

So, let me get this straight. You had your mossberg 500 disassembled, ON THE COUCH??? :what:

Everyone knows the tactical grease and oil will soil the couch forever. :D

That could happen to most anybody, especially if you're in an apartment and it's the staff/management.

Theft is a danger, whether you're renting or buying. I like for a bare minimum of people to know what I have around at home. But again, you could have a situation where somebody dropped by like this.

Since you won't be there forever, I wouldn't worry about it too much if it were me.

do you hide your laptop as well? I can understand if there will be kids over that want to touch everything in sight. A friend came over one day with her toddler and I grabbed up all of my pistols and put them in places well out of reach to the little rugrat, even though we were watching him. I didn't want to go diving across the room if he got to close to one of my "hiding spots". Or if you have friends have sticky fingers and tend to be immature, yea, stash it. Otherwise, I don't think normal visits from JW's, Landlords, Neighbors, etc necessarily warrant throwing a towel over a broken down rifle that you are cleaning.

The problem is that old ladies gossip. She now has told everyone within 3 miles of where you live that you are a crazed gun nut. I just had a similar situation and had to call the sherriff. I actually responded to someone breaking into a neighboors home. The police told her she should have a gun if she was going to keep telling people how much money she had, and that her husband was never home. The cop picked up on it right away, he said I am here 15 minutes and you have told me a dozen times that you have cash and jewlery, "a lot" in your home, never use the alarm, and are alone most or the time. He went on to explain that she should thatk god for neighboors like me, that she could call in an emergency. She then went on a rampage telling everyone , "even people she didn't know, as they walked by", that I was a gun carrying lunatic. She never even saw my gun.
So be careful because some of these old folks are just nuts, and they love to gossip.
The cops suggested I wear my holster on my property ,but would not go over and tell her to cut it out. Two guys who were with homeland and another agency, "that I shoot with", went down to the sherrif and filed some kind of form with the dept.Soon after that she stopped, although I did speak to an attorney, which was next.
I helped her, and it bit me in the ass.

I do. Anything that is "smash-and-grabable" generally gets put somewhere not easily seen. I don't have enough high-end fancy crap to be worth taking, so what little I DO have I tend to hide away when I'm not home.

Other than giving us all the chance to make fun of somebody else behind their back (which is not exactly a High Road behavior), this thread seems to have zero actual purpose.

Let's move along.
