Have lived in Roswell, NM for 13 years, came from the east coast....i promise you, there's more violence out here than ever thought of in New York city!!! In Albq. there has been shootings every night for the last 4 nights....and if you check on a site www.cityprofile.com (i think) it will show you the amount of crime per capita for various crimes in your city.....i know in Roswell, it's 2.06 times the per capita for murder!!!!!! DON'T believe small towns are safe.......and the gangs here are out of control....even the police wait 20 minutes before showing up most of the time.....

I would introduce myself and get to know them. Even if they are gang bangers, I would rather be cool with them then not be. Just my .02

That's what I think too.

Original poster, your best bet is to develop a passing acquaintance with the neighbors. Just make a little small talk. Next time they give you the "eye," just kind of stand in front of 'em with shoulders squared and in a friendly way ask them what they're up to, how they're doing, etc...this might go a long way. A little noncommittal conversation sure won't hurt your cause, and will probably help.

The trick, in my opinion, is to assert a little dominance without being rude, and just be friendly. Don't be friendly in a cowering sort of way, just...be there, and talk to them for a minute. Appear neither submissive nor overly assertive. It's kind of like saying "I'm not afraid of you, but we're cool. We both live here. Now you know we're cool."

Would there be anything to gain by going out that night and confronting who ever was out there that night?

A lot of negative gain if you investigate indescreetly. Next time when you get that "un-natural" feeling, look through the window or find a way to not get noticed when trying to view if a crime is being committed.

While no one is home at my place I have my Glock loaded right next to me and when there something that goes "bump" in the night, I slowly get up and get in a protective position cover.

We should all never assume things. Let's find out for ourselves with descretion.

i believe the going out side armed to confront the taggers only can lead to bad things, you could get hurt,or you might shoot someone and end up being sued, plus there is no reason to let anyone know you have guns, might come home and find you were robbed

There. Fixed it for ya. ;)
