I was wondering which brands are the best for 336 aperture sights? I was also wondering if the factory front site has to be replaced as well. I'm looking into XS because they provide both rear and front. But I was also looking at Skinners and they look good for the price, but they have to be tapped for windage, which isn't convenient in the field. Is it common to have to adjust windage in the field?

I have a williams fp site on my 336. I Like it a lot. Had to buy a taller front site. Got that from brownells .

no, not common to adjust windage in the field. run it the same as a scope in that you get it set up, get to know your poa/poi and go.

i have a williams on my 336 and also needed a taller front sight. windage and elevation adjustments have to be handled w/ a screwdriver and some trial and error, but i am happy w/ the sight. i like it much better on the receiver than on the barrel. i've also messed around w/ tang sights and don't much care for 'em. a small step up from barrel-mounted sights is my feelings on 'em.

Have several set ups with peeps - both Lyman and Williams. Rimfire and centerfire.

Prefer the Lyman if making frequent adjustments, but Williams are good and Williams front fiber sight really works well in lower light - like in the woods.

Older, all-steel peeps are my preference when I can find them reasonably priced. Redfield and Mossberg made some fine ones. However, I don't hesitate to use Williams.

On hunting rifles, find the ammo it likes then "set 'em and forget 'em!"
