I have a Marlin 336 made in 1976. I am thinking about getting a peep sight to enhance the accuracy of this rifle. What brand/type of peep sight is easiest to install using pre drilled tapped holes on the 336 receiver? Also, I don't want to remove or mess with the front sight,if possible. I want to have a peep sight that is easy to install and adjust using existing front sight. I am thinking of either Skinner or Williams peep sight. Thanks for any inputs.

I have used the Williams Foolproof receiver sight on a couple of Marlins, and a Skinner on a Winchester 9422. I think if I put another receiver sight on one of my Marlins, I will use the Skinner sight that uses the receiver scope mount holes.

I also greatly prefer a flat top serrated ramp front sight, so I also did that while I was at it.

Here is the peep sight on my 336 using the scope mounting holes. Nothing hangs over the side and looks like the rifle came that way. Just a very good combination IMHO

I'm gonna sound like a broken record here , but I have a Williams peep sight (model Number # 70018) in a fire sight mounted on both my Marlin 336 and one of my Marlin 39a 's . Both look just like the sight pictured above.

Great investment for a set of older eyes ;) like mine.

The OP said specifically he did not want to mess with the front sight, and I think the options being shown to him require that, let me know if I am wrong. I have used the Lyman and Williams in multiple applications, and only the Lyman did not required a new front sight. IIRC from the Marlin Owner's forum the Skinner also requires a new front sight.

I e used both skinner and XS sights on my lever actions. I think the skinners look a bit nicer than the XS but both have worked well for me.
