I have the dpms LR 308B, and have had it for many years, quite regularly i can get 1.25" groups @ 100yds with common wolf ammo. I'm quite proud of that fact. I wonder what match ammo might achieve.

criterion has some nice 16 inch melonited 308 bbls.keep it light,as posted,you have to carry it.we are no longer 18-20 years old in prime physical shape.16 inch will be plenty.
work up your most accurate loads,then find which factory loads shoot best.
