AR-10 for hunting?

I was reading a forum this morning a lot of people get nervous around the "battle rifles"
i would love to take my Ar-10 into the woods with me just don't want to be part of the problem.

I just got a custom AR upper in .358 WSSM. Gonna use it for deer hunting as it fits Indiana regulations. If I could use an AR-10, I'd be all in.

More and more are being used for hunting. My only suggestion would be to keep it simple for the hunt and avoid layering it down with add-ons that end up making it a ten pound beast. Also to watch your regs for mag limits, lights on the firearm and such.

I can't wait to use my AR15 type rifle this season. Anyone that has a problem with it is ignoring the tradition of military style rifles being adapted to a hunting role.

Hello here is the question i wanna get an Armalite Ar-10 for hunting and home defense. Would you take the Ar-10 into the woods or leave it for the house?

Hmmmmm....I wonder if it would work?

Yeah, it might be ok. :D

My father picked up a DMPS LR-308 two years ago I guess and to be honest, I was pretty indifferent about it until I borrowed it for a couple of months then did some load development and some range work with it. That thing was supremely accurate with 165 grain Ballistic tips with Varget. It was turning out groups about 1" at 200 yards. Impressive results out of most guns, much less an autoloader. So to answer your question, I'd take one into the woods in a second and for pigs I think they're exactly what the doctor ordered. Being able to put multiple rounds, with some muscle, down range before the herd hauls ---.

I dont think AR10s are for deer hunting, got too many bolt action rifles for that. when i ddrive up on a feeder with lots of hogs under it, my AR10A2 or M1A drop a bunch in a few seconds. deer hunting is different and they deserve to be taken with a deer rifle not a lead sprayer, even though I love my leadd sprayers.

Wood stocked bolt actions make me nervous, better leave them at home.

What "problem"?

It is no ones business what kind of rifle you hunt with. Use what you want to.

I disagree,

Just cause you have 20 rounds doesn't mean you have to use them all at one time. I like using my AR-10 because I can load a 20 round mag into it and be set for hunting pigs, coyotes, deer or whatever I decide to take even if I stay out multiple days.
Just a note on spraying, that is for waterhoses and those who do not know how to shoot; the pics with the deer and pigs above were all one shot kills. ;)

Hunt it. I hunt with my M1A. No reason not to take an AR-10. The .308 will put down most anything on this continent in pretty short order if you make the shot count. It's great for deer.

A .308 bullet in the 150gr range is a .308 bullet in the 150gr range, regardless of what launched it. And don't worry about upsetting the Zumbos of the world any more than you would an anti-gunner. Oh wait, they're the same, differing only in degree- irrationally afraid because of how something they don't understand looks.

I wouldn't call them leadsprayers, I just set my bolt gun aside to be replaced by a gasser for my match rifle.

What I have to say to folks who "get nervous around battle rifles", it's simple. Toughski McShatski
