JUST came back from the range after testing my CMMG stainless.
I had winchester super X and CCI .
On my Bushmaster 16 inch barrel (1/9 twist ratio)the cci 40 grain @ 1260 (minimag) shot the best.
The worst, not even considering shooting anymore, was the 32 grain stuff.
I could get the minimags to touch each other @ 25 yards with the 4x scope, but it was really windy today so some went like an inch somewhere else.
Figuring out the ideal load for your rifle is the hard work, the rest is just fun!
Like a dummy i forgot to lube the conversion kit, but even without lube it never failed to extract and it fired all the ammo.
After the session with the .22 I fired three 5.56 rounds and I hit the gong @ 225 yards 3 times in a row, with the scope of course.
I did not re-sight the scope at all; just used the bulled - drop compensator and i had it set on 300 yards for shooting @ 25 yards.
Same platform, same trigger, 1/5th of the cost for the session.
I shot 300 rounds in total that would have costed me somewhere between 180 to 300 dollars depending on where you buy 5.56.
Next trip I will try some less expensive .22 on 40 grain.
Heavy and around 1100 1200 fps worked best for me.
