I'm in the market for an 18"-20" heavy(not bull)barrel for my AR 15. What brand would ya'll recommend for this project? I am leaning toward a 1 in 8 twist. It will be used primarily for target and coyote hunting. My rifle currently has a Colt 1 in 9 twist 16" heavy barrel. I can't get it to group as well with heavy bullets.

For about $300, I can unreservedly recommend the Bravo Company SS410 barrel. I've also tried Superior Barrels and Krieger for precision builds. They were all very sub MOA, but the BCM was the best bang for the buck.

Whatever you get, just make sure that you get one with rifle length gas.

Check White Oak Armament. Their 20" Service Rifle Match barrel might fit your bill.

I have a varmint AR built around one.

Actually, any good 20" Service Rifle Match barrel might fit your bill. They are heavier than standard military profile but not a bull barrel.

look for a service rifle barrel from white oak, compass lake or any of the companies that cater to the high power crowd

This DPMS mini SASS barrel is a bull size, 18" fluted, stainless with 1-8 twist. Midway ran them on dealer special for $200, a deal I could not pass up. I've only had time to shoot this twice and I need to try some different loads but so far I'm seeing moa with NM irons at 100yds. With quality match loads and optics it's a easy sub moa barrel.

This barrel requires you to increase the barrel nut ID by .050, something not mentioned in the description.

I like Rainier Arms offerings.. particularly the 18" Intermediate gas Ultra-match. Its a premium quality barrel from a Shilen 5R blank, 1x8 twist, wylde chamber, and threaded for a muzzle device. You'll need an intermediate gas tube from Noveske. Damn good sub-moa barrel.
