Got my collapsible M4 stock today. :D

To remove Bushie's fixed telestock, you have to unscrew that castle nut, right? I have a CAR stock wrench, but the darn nut seems incredibly hard to budge. Any tips?

If you're not worried about the condition of the old nut, you can use a pipe wrench to loosen it. I would use the stock itself for leverage. Don't use the receiver as a hold-point if you need to use a bit of torque.

It's common to use a punch to stake the nut & receiver end/cover plate to each other so the nut will not unscrew. It also might have been loctited in place. (you never know)

Castle nuts shuld have the CAR wrench with the swuare teeth. Older CAR stocks have round holes in the nut and a wrench with a single nub is used. Do you have the right tool?

There's also the bit where you might be turning it the wrong way? :neener:

No give at all. I'm beginning to think there's some kind of clear sealant on the nut. Either that or they screwed this thing on really, REALLY tight.

Have you guys taken a fixed telestock off before? ttbadboy, how bout your Superlight?

Use heat but not so much heat that you melt anything or change the color of the metal...they are epoxied in there...did you think they were going to let you make your "evil" gun that easy...

How much heat? I heated it up over the stove on the maximum setting, and indeed, the nut got pretty hot (the whole lower did, of course ;) ). There was a little smoking and the smell of hot AR, but the nut still didn't budge. I did see a small bit of clear fluid bubbling out from the cover plate on the end. Dabbed it off with a paper towel, but still nothing. :banghead:

Do you have a good CAR stock wrench or on the the inexpensive ones that have the CAR wrench on one side and a 1911 bushing wrench on the other?

I'd also try some liquid wrench or some sort of penetrating oil to see if it helps a bit.

Good Shooting

slide a 1 foot pvc cheater on the wrench
put the gun on the floor
sit on the stock
align the wrench
push

I would try putting the wrench on the nut and then rapping the wrench with a mallet.
I would also try putting a brass puch into the ? (slot, cutout, key ? ) and tapping the punch with a mallet to get it started.

I removed the fixed fake collapsable stock from my Bushmaster and I don't remember it being all that difficult.
Not trying to be funny here but are you sure you are turning it the right way ?

Well, I called Bushie, and they said they don't do anything special to it, so it looks like I'm just a weakling. :)

Thanks, Harry Tuttle. I'll try that tomorrow. Right now it's time for a huge programming assignment. :barf: ;)

I think I'm turning it the right way. I have a RRA collapsible stock right beside it and I'm turning the nut on the fixed telestock in the way that turns the RRA stock nut away from the lower receiver. Unless they are different...:scrutiny:

I ripped off my Bushie fixed telestock a few months ago, replaced it with an ACE.....

As I recall, it wasn't very easy, but the job didn't require anything more than the precise application of elbow grease. However, I used a different tool:

I think it might get a touch more leverage, which might make the difference......

Got it! Thanks a lot, guys!

The extra leverage was the trick. Good Lord, that thing is on there tight...what if people need to change a stock in the field? :)
