My AR-15 has a cartridge stuck in the chamber. It will not go all the way into battery even with the forward assist, nor will the charging handle pull back to eject the round.
How do I go about solving this? This is a Bushmaster XM15E2S/A3.
Is their a good AR-15 gunsmith in the Dallas area you could recommend?
Thanks!

Collapse the stock if it has an adjustable stock.

Staying clear of the muzzle:
Pull back on the charge handle hard and make sure it is unlatched,.
At the same time, Slam the butt on the ground hard.

The inertia of the bolt carrier should unlock and extract the case.

After you get it out, clean the snot out of the chamber with a chamber brush & solvent.

Dirty Wolf ammo is often a major player in stuck cases in the AR-15.

If it is a reload, you have a collapsed case shoulder from too much crimp.

Had a guy last week with the same problem at the range, did the old butt stroke to the ground...wow, wouldn't work...gunsmith was inside, an he worked on it, not sure what he did, but said where the bolt goes in to lock was real dirty, BAD...guy then told me he had never cleaned it there an was getting one of the chamber brushes.

So is CLP, especially if it gets dry.

After having to butt-stroke my AR like that, I ponied up for Militec.:)

4 years in the Army, using only CLP to clean the rifle and I never had a stuck bolt.

That being said, one day on the range where my assistant gunner decided to drop a segment of linked ammo for the 249 in the pea gravel jammed that rifle up like no ones business... :D

Glad to hear that it cleared safely, though!

Yep!

I am not aware of any problem with CLP & the AR/M16 either.

That's what it was invented for, way back when.

Had a girl turning an M16A2 into the armory a few months ago and there was a blank jammed in her rifle something fierce!! I tried jerking back the charging handle and no luck. I would not let it in the armory without being cleared. I stood up on the latch side of the charging handle and boom! Out it came!

Yep, a Butt Slam of a 15/16 truly is the only way to go. CLP is good, but Kroil is 10 times better for all the gunk from nasty ammo. Sounds like a total tear down and cleaning is what it needs. Is it an early 1980's Bushmaster ?

I have had a ton of the early BM's in the shop here with all kinds of barrel and chamber issues. What I usually rec is to find a new barrel set and swap them out. The older BM's barrels had a machined tolerance issue after being plated in the chamber.

When I replace, I usually rec a DPMS set or DSA set.

Mike

First step in clearing a stuck case is to let the bolt fly home, bang the crap out of the forward assist, point the gun downrange and pull the trigger. Then butt-stroke it. First time you see somebody smack the butt of a loaded rifle against the ground with their FINGER ON THE TRIGGER it will make you a believer. These are kids, make sure you train them VERY CAREFULLY!

I have to clarify.....The gun didn't go boom. The blank shaell was already expended. It did come out though.

Oh boy I had this happen badly to me about two years ago. I tried the buttstock bang and it only worsened the problem, I'm not sure it could have jammed any worse. After weighing my options for a while, stupidly, I decided to operate. Thr majority of the shell was accesible, especially the bullet. Only the the lower portion of the casing was actually jammed. I carefully, manuevered the bullet away from the casing by cutting and prying. This took me literally 3-4 hours bc I was being as careful as possible. I didn't want to mess with the casing until the bullet was out. I finally removed the bullet and once that was done, I just slowly drilled a few holes in the casing, cut it in half and was able to get it out. All in all took about 4.5 hours... Call me stupid, and you probably should, :) but at least it worked. Came out with no cosmetic or BCG damage.

Seems like we're learning those "Nam": lessons again !!

The "Matel" rifle has a lot of things going for it, TBS. But dirt/fouling aren't on the list. >MW
