I've been holding onto a stripped lower waiting to build it up but tons of places are out of stock.

Del-Ton has been out of stock of all of their kits for over a year now!

I'd like to use an A2 upper and A2 front sight, which makes it even harder since everything seems to be flat top and I don't want to go to a removable carry handle.

Oh well, I guess if I wait long enough they may come back?
Anyone else waiting for a kit to build a lower?

DelTon makes good stuff (I have one of their uppers), but they are hardly the only place selling AR parts.

Try PSA.

Everyone is always out of stock and what you want will be double hard to find.

Have you tried Nodak Spud? I haven't used them, but i have about a lot of people building using their kits.

Maybe J&T Distributing (Double Star) or Model 1 Sales.

Yes, I have been seeing some AR parts become more difficult to find at present. Hopefully the shortages will be short lived.

It took like 6 months or more AFTER the last election for the parts market to recover, then it seemed as if the market was flooded. Rather than a full kit, you would probably do better just picking up an upper assembly from whoever you can, and get the rest of the parts seperately. PSA is where I would start.

I must say this: don't buy from Blackthorne/akpartskits--I did and had to do a LOT of extra gunsmithing (and replace some of the parts) to make things work properly. I wound up with some pretty decent AR's, but it was after the battle.

I was considering putting together an AR last year, and most of the vendors that were recommended to me where out of stock. So its been going on for over a year now, so I don't see it ending any time soon. :(

You just need to check stock daily (or more).

I have actually had much better luck finding stuff locally. Put together 2 pistol uppers recently, 1 pistol lower, 1 rifle lower and one complete rifle since September, got everything from local vendors, and didn't pay exorbitant sums. The only parts I ordered online were a couple of quad rails, a CTR stock, VFGs and an MOE LPK on sale from PSA for $49.99.

In our area, I've been "hearing" about everyone being out of stock but the Small Arms Review show this past week-end had most dealers packing butt-loads of upper, kits, lowers and mags at the end of the show.

From my point of view watching 5 particular dealers with inventory at reasonable prices - I continually heard about how high they were compared to internet/Shotgun News ads for mail order sources which were out of stock. Plus, they seldom mention that they don't want to pay shipping when it applies or wait for the item or buy an item that they can't immediately put their hands on.

Reminds me of a dealer friend's response when a fella might come up and say something like...

Perpetually penny pincer... "$129.00?!?, So-and-so has it for $114.95."
Dealer... "Well, sounds good, you should get it from them."
PPP... "I can't, they,re out"
Dealer... "When I'm outa stock, they're $114.95 too"

PSA doesn't sell barreled A2 uppers as far as I can tell and they are out of stock of a bunch of uppers/bolt carrier groups.

I had forgotten about M1 Sales, I almost bought from them then decided to get a Del-Ton.

I may just grab the lower build kit from PSA for $80 now and keep my eye out for a 16" or 20" upper.

I'm pretty leery of buying a total kit from one of the not as well known sites people are recommending. Do they just source parts from another manufacturer or whats the deal? (i.e. is a Brownells/Midway kit going to be the same thing just more expensive since they are selling it)

I was just going to recommend their 12 days of Christmas sale. I ordered that $80 kit last night, a heck of a deal to fully complete a stripped lower. At least you'd have that out of the way and could concentrate on the upper.

I'd recommend going with a PSA upper too. A few months back I caught a Labor Day deal on their 16" LW midlength upper and it's turned out great. Very high quality.

PSA has great deals. I buy parts from. Shipping on parts isn't bad. Their shipping for uppers, lowers and rifles can stretch out for weeks. There are many threads about it over at AR15.com. Check out PSA's industry page there. Just be aware of the shipping times.

Edit: I just checked their industry page. It looks like PSA has a handle on shipping. Many are saying they received their uppers around 15 business days. Good news.

I will second this. We bought twenty barrels during the last election parts rush for building our rifles. We ended up having to warranty every single one. Some of the FSB gas blocks had forging cracks in them. Two barrels didn't have any rifling! When we tried to contact them, the phone number had changed and we figured they did a sell and dash.

Check out DSArms, they had A2 style uppers last time I looked. Call them and see what the lead time is, they run on a 90 day schedule, take orders for 75 days and then build them and ship. At least on the really popular stuff. A2 isn't a popular option from what I've seen. Flat top and a removable carry handle is what I bought.
