I just purchased a Stag AR and have a few 30 round magazines from different suppliers.

Would like to know everyone's opinion on their experience with different manufacturer's magazines.

There is a gun shop up the street that has Charles Daly magazines for $16.95.

What is working for you?

Thanks -

Rourke

Magpul Pmags, but I would recommend to buy some steel mags as well as ive seen some Pmags crack, but they still win in my book for solid reliability.

I recommend USGI with MagPul enhanced followers. USGI mags are made by Okay Industries, NHMTG, Adventureline, etc. These will be the best value around.

My other choice are Lancer L5s, which are pricier, but they are translucent polymer, an advantage the Pmags don't have. Pmags are the more popular mag, and with good reason. Any of these choices will serve you well. Don't skimp on mags! Only buy quality mags from reputable manufaturers.

C-Products aluminum mags are the best deal out there nowadays. The come with Magpul followers installed and cost anywhere from $11-15 depending on where you go. Pmags are tough and great, but not the single best gun related item to come along in past 50 years. ;) The HK mags are overpriced and overhyped IMO, while USA, National, and Promags should be avoided if possible..

I can vouch for Pmags and C-Products, as I use both

USGI mags are ok, but you have to put in the new followers. Ive got a few 30s and 20s in USGI , and I'd take my c-products or Pmags anyday, but USGI with good followers are still better than that other cheap crap

Cproducts is what I have used in the past and had no issues with them. I picked up a few PMags recently, but haven't used them yet.

Note on c-products: if you get them and have issues, call them. They'll make it right.

I don't trust C-products. Please see this thread:

I ordered three 20 rnd Alum. "USGI" from Centerfire Systems which I just got, they don't have a name on them anywhere and they only hold 19 rnds. *sigh* They also charged me $10 shipping and $1.65 "service". Lesson Learned.

I'm still waiting (after 2 months) on some P-mags I ordered. Those things are unobtanium right now.

I've had good luck with NHTMG and Okay GI mags; I don't have any problems with the green GI followers.

IMHO, some of the best mags out there are Brownell's. I get 'em locally for $17, so I doubt I could beat them on price anyway. They are very well finished; good welds, square corners, thicker bodies than my USGI mags. Can't say enough good things.

My Stag is *very* picky about mags. The only ones that work well are NHMTF, BFI (Bushmaster), Center Industries and Okay Industries. None of the cheepo gun show magazines worked for me..

I can vouch for Pmags and C-Products, as I use both
+1 PMags & CProducts. I like their stainless body mag too, which is only around $13 from MidwayUSA. Plus they were in-stock yesterday and again about a week earlier.

C Products are very good mags as well are Pmags.
I wouldn't worry to much about the posted thread regarding the C Products. Someone will have a problem somewhere along the line but they make a good product.

C products magazines make no good sense. With the myriad reports of problems with the magazines, the company, and the owner, why would anyone pass up on known solid performers like the BCM, Brownells, and Pmags?

22lr- can you tell us more about the pmags you've seen crack?

i use pmags and usgi. haven't had any issues.

USGI mags are ok, but you have to put in the new followers

Why?

The only mags I've ever used on my ARs have been surplus GI mags without replacing the follower.

Never had a mag feed issue almost 30 years and counting. But then I don't own any of the red headed step child AR's.

USGI mags here - both with green and enhanced followers. Got all mine from Bravo Co. mfg., D&H, and Defense Solutions. With brass through my Del-Ton, problems were rare; something like two FTE's out of the last 300 rounds of PMC .223, and I would more or less blame it on not cleaning it thoroughly enough after some 300 rounds of Wolf from a few trips prior than I do the mags. Havent put enough rounds through my CMMG to give any significant testimonial.

With US GI mags, have been hit or miss. Some work good, some don't. Have had good luck with bushmaster mags.

I have a bunch of Adventureline Vietnam era 20 rounders with the metal follower. I had every intention of rebuilding them but they all work flawlessly, nothing uglier than worn marlube. NHMTF = Colt some very nice mags in the black Teflon and green follower. D&H are beautiful looking and functioning again in the black Teflon with green follower. I have a few CProducts with the grey follower that have been good mags also. You are going to have to cull you mags anyway but once it is proven good it's a keeper. This is why you will see quite a few people with a mixed bag of mags. If you are going to buy from 44Mag.com I would recommend the D&H, nicest mag for the money INMHO. Bill

A check of .44mag.com shows the D&H in stock for 12.99 w/green follower. This is a score in the current market.

I have a few P-mags, but have recently started seeing posts about them cracking at the curved notch at the top. This is the problem with Pmags. Everyone has jumped all over these things, but there is no longterm usage history on them. As a result, while I have a few I am reluctant to invest heavily or rely heavily on them. I have mostly USGI mags with upgraded followers. My new mags are Stainless C-products bodies with Magpul followers and CMMG braided wire springs. I think they are as good as anything that is available.

+1 on those CMMG braided wire springs!!

Man, will those things EVER go bad!!??

Now, that's what we should be hoarding!! :p

I know Pmags are the rage now, especially with the "operators" and the folks who want the latest and greatest. I have a few myself, but the majority of my mags are USGI mags, and they work just fine.

i have fn and colt with the plastic followers, they work well. got them from local gun shop of $23-27 a mag. you can get them for cheaper online. i've even heard of the cheap $10-15 ones being good.

The real advantage of P-Mags is the ability to "spring back" after having a heavy object dropped on them.

Once aluminum becomes deformed, it stays deformed.
If you try to "bend it back," it just breaks.

It is interesting to see the STEEL mags on the market now. Used to be the only steel mags were absolute garbage (Pro-Mag). I'm hearing good things about steel mags (C Products) these days.
