AR-15 Question

I have shot a friends ar many times recently. I love shooting them. Well, this weekend I'm going to get my first one. I'm very excited. The question I have is, are AR mags interchangeable between manufacturers?Can a Bushmaster magazine fit say a RRA's and vice versa?

My friend told me that when I buy mine, that any AR mag will fit.

All AR magazines are supposed to fit. All AR magazines are supposed to function. Unfortunately, due to the popularity of the platform, there are many low quality AR magazines out there that will cause you nothing but headaches.

Buy high quality magazines and you eliminate many problems in the AR. I can recommend Magpul P-Mags as being among the best. They can be found for $12 -15 each at many online sources.

I've always had good luck with usgi mags and the p-mags mentioned above are also nice (DSG is currently running a 10 for $99 deal if you don't mind Green). A lot of guys are switching over to p-mags entirely and I've found some great deals on NIW usgi mags (as low as 6.00 each). The only mags I've every had trouble with in my ARs are some old Israeli surplus orlites and some steel usa brand mags. The USA mags just wouldn't function reliably and the feed lips on the orlites would crack with very little use use.

Give the P-Mags a try. I doubt that you will be disappointed. I have 20 and 30 round mags and they work great for me.
