Just picked up a Burris 1-4 from Palmetto State Armory. It's got a 30mm tube. What would be a good set of rings to mount it up? Any advantage or disadvantage to having a one piece or two piece mount? Do I need a quick release mount?

I would take a look at the Burris AR PEPR mount. It has the option to come with QD levers as well. It'll put your scope at the exact height you need it at and is really durable.

The Aero looks pretty nice. What's the difference between the standard and the extended? Is it to get more or less eye relief?

I second Mike on the P.E.P.R from Burris. It's a good solid mount that is versatile, as it has picatinny mounts on top of the rings.

It also won't cost you an arm and a leg - about $75.

Mike C. is a crazy man, and will be escorted from the building shortly.

Please consider the DNZ Freedom Reaper:

I'm on my seventh DNZ mount, three on ARs, one 30mm, this same model base holding a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x32 FFP. I tend to move scopes around between rifles, and if the DNZ has ever left a mark on one of my scopes, I can't find one.

It has a number of things going for it – it starts as a solid block, and the first CNC machining pass makes what becomes the ring centers... the rings cannot be misaligned. It also eliminates any possibility of the rings loosening from recoil. It’s hard anodized, requires no lapping, has hex-head screws, and best of all – made in the USA, in North Carolina. I can’t say enough good things about them

The Burris is at PSA with a coupon. Plus the Burris rebate (that may have expired yesterday...) it's only $40 and has the QD levers. Add $20 if you missed the rebate.

It's a good solid mount with both picatinny and smooth tops and for the price, unbeatable. Weight would be the only real negative.

Seconded and seconded again for the Burris PEPR mount. It's not the ultimate in lightness but it's plenty strong.

I splurged for the QD version. Not because I plan of taking it off but because if it does get broken I want to be able to quickly remove it (that one time) without needing tools.

I thought that maybe, being 1x- that it would allow me to see the front sight in an emergency but the focusing mechanics of the optics don't allow that. I'll keep my folding BUIS's's's and maybe invest in a MRD as well.

I'm going for the extend version of the Aero mount. Super light and not much more than the PEPR mount. Thanks guys for all the suggestions!

Smo if you want to save $ to spend on fodder ,Walmart has (had) a millet one piece ,that I can use on different rifles . It does not change zero ,when removed and replaced. I was shocked! I got it on a whim to scope a muzzle loader. I have always used 2 piece . And could not believe ,a 1 piece with 1 clamp (1nut)could be repeatable . Using 30mmtube have not tried 1"! They don't seem to be able to keep them on the shelf though. Too late I see, meh!
