I'm thinking of getting a .22 conversion for my Bushmaster Varmint .223...How well do the conversions shoot without buying a .22 upper. Is 50 yd squirrel hunting out of the question using a .224 barrel?
I have the CMMG conv kit and with the right ammo it shoots under an inch at 50yrds in my AR's (PS that's Wolf MT) Bulk ammo not as hot but who ever said 22lr's won't shoot in an AR barrel is wrong IMO. Twist in my rifles is 1-9".
is the m&p 15-22 out of your price range? if not, its a great buy, and lets you keep your bushy intact. I have no experience with the conversions, so I'll let others speak to that.
