AR AR on the wall, who is the fairest of them all

Ruger and Remington ? they have recently started selling their AR's here , they don't look bad ?

I guess it depends on what you mean by toughest and most reliable. Myself, I wouldn't put either one near the top. I'd be looking at the ARs suggested early in your thread not R&R.

If you are looking for a quality AR, then just pick from the top-tier manufacturers. No need to know which ones to avoid. and don't cry when you have to pay for the top end rifles, because they are usually not cheap.

My choice would be:

LMT
Colt
BCM
Noveske
DD

in that order ?

When you're talking LMT, Colt, BCM, DD, Noveske and KAC you'll get a lot of opinions which is best and few opinions which is worst (since they're all so good). Any would be a fine choice so compare and pick the one that offers the most at your price point. Myself, I bought DD and BCM midlengths.

And if you're wanting to stay under 1K, look at PSA and Spikes.

This ^

I ended up with Colt and BCM, but mostly because they were the least expensive from that list.

If somebody were to gift/buy/hand me any of them, I'd choose KAC or Noveske.

What's the public opinion on LWRC? Every one I've handled seemed well put together.

LWRC make fine rifles. If I had not found my Hk, the LWRC was my second choice. I wanted a piston gun (have many DI guns), and they along with Hk & Sig are at the top of the piston gun food chain...

There is this.....Then everything else and I am rightly and properly biased. I'll take the Civilian version of the rifle that put Bin swimmin at the bottom of the ocean down every day of the week and again on Sunday.

I hear ya HKGuns, it is my favorite too. To me it is head and shoulders above the rest, but that is only my opinion.

This was one of my grail guns, I just happened to stumble onto it.

Please everyone else know, I am not saying it is the best AR or anything, I am saying it is the best for me. I love the way this thing is built. I am not knocking any other brands, I own a few other AR's, but I am thankful I found this one. Most would not like this rifle. It is heavy and not your typical AR.

Looks real nice Charlie! Weight be damned, you cat shoot the pi$$ out of that heavy profile barrel and still be on target.

Colt, BCM, DD, LMT (of these, I'd buy whatever one is locally available to you at decent price)

Or the more expensive; LaRue, KAC, Noveske

Or, at minimum; Spikes, PSA

You can't go by "looks", the shoddiest Del Ton looks like a Colt. It is the quality of the materials, parts, assembly and QA/QC that differentiates them.

Colt 6920's are selling for less than they were in 2008(Pre panic). I just saw a NIB 6920 listed on AuctionArms with a "Buy it now" price of $1099. Auction ended with no bids. At that price I think it would be hard to find a better AR than Colt.

Look at PWS as well. More than one group of Secret Squirrels happen to be running around Af-Pak using them right now.

I own one (Mk112 Mod0) and have had nothing but good things to say about it. As a long stroke piston rifle it's only a few ounces heavier than a DI bang stick and the recoil is comparable to better than any other AR I have used or been issued. If you open it up and take a look inside you'll see an operating system that looks an awful lot like an AK's. It's about as reliable too.

The ergos are what you would expect for any AR, very good, and it's overall point-ability is superb. I run a VFG on the far front of mine and it makes recoil mitigation a piece of cake for those rapid follow-ups.

As far accuracy goes, I can hit a 20" gong at 500m all day using a 1x Aimpoint T-1 without magnification.

OilyPablo, they usually have an MSRP of $2995. Before the panic they could be found for $2600ish. Now there is usually a waiting list. I have seen a couple go up for sale in stores but they are bringing MSRP or more.

It is not a cheap venture, but one that you have to decide if it is worth it. It is honestly a mix between a match rifle and a combat rifle... They were built to outlast the legacy rifles, but cost three times more... To me it was a no brainer. I wanted a piston setup. The service life of the rifles in theory should offset the cost. Let me get 40-50k rounds through it nd we will see if I still say that...lol
