AR Barrel Question

look at rock river they make a 20" gov. profile in 223 wylde, I would just buy there complete upper though its like $500 comes with bcg and charging handle.

I would love a RRA gov in 223 Wylde, but all the 20" barrels I see on their site are HBARs.

You are correct, I could've sworn they were government that's way it usually goes for me though lol. Why do you not want the Hbar? Just weight or something else?

Try bcm they had a 20" but no Wylde camber just 556. They are probably sold out too. You could try a 16" midlength that would open up a few more options for you, but I know I know you want a 20" welcome to the club lol, it seems like real ARs are getting harder to find unless you want a Hbar or NM gun.

Thanks Chuck

Ro - I need a 20" as it is for High Power competition. I already have 3 BCM 20" govs. They simply are not accurate enough. They are only good for about 1.5 - <2 MOA. In fairness that is non-floated though.

I already have a couple of RRA 20" HBARs, and have owned a few more in the past, and all are or were very accurate, floated or not. However I have a heck of time shooting a floated HBAR offhand. Around the 5th or 6th round my scores start to sink due to the gun's weight. I shoot a light barreled gun much better offhand.

BCM makes a medcon 20" in their SS410 line. It has a 1:8 twist with a USMC match chamber. Not quite what you were looking for, but its a quality barrel. They also make a CM chrome lined 20" 1:7 but I don't think it's match grade.

I would check WOA and Fulton Armory. I got a Criterion from Fulton Armory for SRS matches. Great barrel. 223 wylde, 1:8 twist. If my eyes see the target, it can shoot sub MOA. It shoots 55gr and 70ish grain just as accurate. I think it is a HBAR profile. I think FA has others profiles. If WOA doesn't have a gov profile, they would turn one for you.

Edit: The post below is a good suggestion.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but get in better shape. You honestly want the rifle about as heavy as you can get it to "calm it down". Work on technique to get the weight of the rifle supported by bone instead of muscle. Are you using a shooting coat? Check the fit of the coat. It will help with taking the weight of the rifle off your muscles and getting it into the bones, but it has to fit correctly and be worn correctly.

The heavier barrel is also less prone to starting to open up the groups during a string of fire as the barrel gets warm.

Thanks for the tips. The Criterion that Fulton carries looks perfect. I have a few Criterions on my match Garands and am very happy with them. Reprofiling is a good suggestion too.

Helo - I am in much better than average shape for a guy my age thank you. I don't use a shooting coat and I don't intend to. They are too artificial for my tastes... same with some of those bulky shooting gloves.

I have been using HBARs for a long time. The AR I currently use for match shooting is a RRA Standard A2 (HBAR). It is an excellent barrel... just heavy when combined with either a free float tube or a quad rail. With plastic handguards it isn't too bad, but I would rather try a light barrel floated. I know how a HBAR not floated performs.
