I have a 16" piston AR with a melonite barrel and it shoot great and easy to clean, and now I've been wanting to assemble a DI 20" A4 rifle with an A2 buttstock and handguards, preferably with a gov profile barrel. Trouble is I can't seem to find any 20" barrels that are melonite treated, but there are plenty of chrome lined gov profile barrels. Anybody have any clue why, or any lead on a 20" melonite barrel?

I suppose I could use a chrome lined parkerized barrel, it's worked for decades, but melonite seems to beat chrome lining in just about every catagory.

Thanks, but they have Wylde chambers and no mention of what the barrel profile is. I need a full 5.56 chamber for reliability when hot and don't want an HBAR.

Wylde chambers are safe for 5.56, but when hot the user may experience sticking cases.

Closest I've found in melonite are some 5.56 gov profile 18".

Have you witnessed this or is it something you've read or been told? My grandkids have done a ton of mag dumps through my ARP .223 wylde with nary a hickup. Also run it on 3 gun with no problems.

Same experience myself. Wylde chamber, Wolf ammo, teenage mag dumps and no failures with three Wylde chambered barrels I own.

Apologies to Col. Potter, but "Horsehockey!!" Get a better source of information!

Yes, personal experience. Sporatic intermittant sticking cases when using 5.56 in a Ranch Rifle, which uses wylde chamber.

I've heard a lot of good things concerning Melonite tubes.

Is it all hype, or is there some concrete evidence about melonite treated tubes and how they compare to chrome lined ?

Does anyone here have links/info on how they compare to chrome lined bbls in the long term?

Rd count comparisons?

Is it possible to have an existing bbl treated with Melonite?

Most things I see anymore are solutions looking for a problem. Not the case with melonite treated barrels. Long wear with great accuracy is possible. Chrome lined barrels last a long time and can take a great deal of neglect but they are not know to be extremely accurate. Sorry no hard numbers for you.
