Anyone had issues with a 16 inch CAR barrel & gas system and a standard A2 stock & buffer?

I've been searching the threads and I am not SURE my question was answered.

Is the A2 stock buffer tube and spring longer than the carbine?

Just wondering if I need to pick up an extra buffer.

It shouldn't be a problem. I went with the reverse set up (20" barrel with adjustable stock) and had problems with less gas pushing a stiffer buffer spring. Your set up should have more than enough gas to cycle.

My dept bought a lot of rifles with that setup. It never caused any problems that I knew of.

I've been shooting one for 20 yrs.A Colt Sporter Lightweight and one I made up by buying an assembled lower at one table and an assembled upper at another table.popped 'em together and it ran just fine.
Until the magpul repklacement for the CAR stock came out,I preferred the fixed stock setup.

I had one of the Oly's during the ban. Fixed full stock, no flash hider/bayo lug. Ran just fine. Became an m4 clone the day after the ban expired though ;)

I am still learning about ARs.

Do you ask because the spring and/or buffer may be different between the two rifles?

I am using an A2 stock, spring and rifle buffer in my carbine length gas ported .300 BLK. Runs real nice.

Before that this stock, spring and buffer were on a carbine .223 and ran fine. It's like running a real heavy buffer. I don't remember the weights off hand.

Thanks for all the replies. I figured the A2 stock would be more stable for long range shooting so I wanted to try it.

One of these days my build kit shall arrive.

I've been thinking about the same setup.
My adjustable 16" Carbine is OK, but I have recently been thinking the same thing since I have a A2 stock on my 20" that I have grown a prefrence for lately. Just like the better cheek weld for better shooting beyond 100 yds (I'm getting old :uhoh:).

My .22 LR and .300 BLK AR both have an A2 Stock. I like them.

I did an ArmaLite build years ago, 16" midlength upper and A1 rifle receiver extension. It worked great and no doubt carbine length gas would cycle the heavy rifle buffer/spring even stronger.

If you want to use a fixed stock with a carbine length buffer tube you can always try Magpul's MOE fixed carbine stock. That would give you the stability of a fixed stock and the option to easily change to a collapsible stock in the future should you feel the need.
