I'm planning the following Recce style AR build:

1 BCM Mid-Length Gas Tube $13.00
1 BCM Recce Barrel w/ ionbond $359.00
1 DD 9.0 Lite Rail $299.00
1 DD Stripped Upper $89.00
1 Troy Battlesights $199.00
1 Trijicon TA33G-H w/ Larue mount $980.00
1 BCM Ionbond BCG $199.95
1 BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle $44.95
1 DD Lower kit $308.00
1 LMT SOPMOD Stock $199.00
1 Wolff Spring and Slash's Buffer $90.00
1 Bill Springfield 4lb w/ Speed Hammer $44.00

I know I'm missing a few small parts but you get the idea. The total so far is $2,824.90. Is that too much?? It's exactly how I want it, but is there a better rifle or better deal that I could get for that much?

What do you guys think?

I would be very surprised if you couldn't get the upper you want built for a cheaper price (than the total of the upper parts). This would put them on the hook if there is any problem with function or accuracy. Otherwise if you have a problem, you're left with a very expensive bunch of parts and a potentially difficult problem to debug yourself. Using carbine classes as an example, most malfunctions are due to changes or builds done by the user. Although I have built and modified my own uppers (that have run), I prefer to buy complete units from MSTN or Noveske for the reasons stated above.

Also, I would recommend using a standard carbine buffer and op spring. There is no need for a heavier buffer. Additional reciprocating mass over what is required for operation increases cycle time and will actually induce more sight picture movement during recoil than a heavy setup with stiff springs. This is why 3-Gun competitors typically use lower-mass setups.

ETA: If you aren't going with a fixed front sight/gas block, then why not use a longer rail that will cover a low-pro gas block? This gives a longer sight radius for the BUIS and more grasping area, which I think it important.

I believe they go up to 12.0/rifle length for their rail systems. They also have special rail systems with extended panels.
