I am researching parts and uppers and lowers to build my first AR.

It seems like Del-Ton has a nice setup where you can say what you want to order for uppers and lower parts and then all you need is a stripped lower.

What can you tell me about their quality?

Anything special I need to know for building my first AR? Tools? Etc.

Don't need any special tools really. I built mine with a pair of vice grips, a hammer, some needle nose pliers, and masking tape to keep from marring the receiver. Roll pin punches help a lot for a few parts while assembling the lower. There's also a special wrench that's used to tighten the stock onto the receiver, but it's not necessary..just very helpful.

As far as Del-Ton.. i've heard they're decent. I built mine off a J&T upper, and a Doublestar stripped lower. I've been extremely happy with the outright quality of my build, and the price was amazing. Take a look at J&T Distributing as well as Del-Ton.

I built a M4gery with a Del-Ton kit and a Double Star lower. Love it. It has been every bit as reliable as my Bushmaster.

I have built 2 AR's with Del-Ton kits. The quality is great, and as far as I am concerned, I will only use Del-Ton in the future. Very easy people to work with, with great service.

Building lowers with no tools is easy.

When you get to the upper you are really gonna want at the very least a barrel wrench, and probably a receiver block to hold the receiver in a vise. You can do it without the block but you run the risk of damaging your upper receiver.

Another Del-Ton user here. Only nitpick was that I wasn't logged in under my normal account when I ordered my Mid-Length kit from them, and so never got a confirmation email. Quality of the kit was superb, though, and got to me exactly when they said it would.

Only downside is that I never have enough ammo. :)

I thought having a brass punch set and the CAR wrench were helpful...

And AR15.com is a great resource for your first "build."

I have a del-ton kit on a DPMS lower. I haven't had a single problem with it. Love it. All I used to put it together was a pair of vice grips, a punch set and the special wrench for the stock. I would not hesitate to buy from Del-Ton again.
