I've got a Colt Sporter Lightweight circa 1991 and I've always wanted to go with a collapsible stock, but never got around to buying one. I kind of wanted to go with an official Colt manufactured stock, but they are quite expensive at $150 or so.

I've read a thread on AR-15.com comparing the stocks, but it didn't get much out of the posts.

I pretty much want an M4 style collapsible stock, but wasn't sure if any brand is particularly better than others and how low you can pay for one without sacrificing quality.

If you want the new "enhanced" M4 stock, then Rock River Arms sells one for $60; but the buffer tube isn't mil-spec like your current Colt tube. The outer diameter is slightly smaller IIRC. If you want the older style telestock in Fiberlite (plastic) then you can find those for $40 from aftermarket manufacturers and it will have the same issue with the buffer tube.

Get the LMT from ADCOfirearms. The complete kit (receiver extension, H buffer, buffer spring, and M-4 style ribbed stock). Good stuff, and mil-spec if that is a consideration. :)

I would have to agree.....if you are willing to spend a bit more, the Vltor Modstock or LMT SOPMOD are far superior stocks. Cheekweld is MUCH better than the standard design.

I just ordered and installed a couple of Cavarms M4 type stocks. They seem to be pretty decent quality. I've also had the Rock River M4 type stocks and was happy with it also.

There are much nicer stocks out there, but you pay a premium for them, oftentimes two to three times as much in price. I personally just can't justify the expense when I can do the exact same things with my M4 type stocks.
