Wondering if leaving the detachable carry handle on my flat-top and adding a carry handle mount and rifle scope would be stable enough to hold zero/not wobble etc.
If you torque it down and put witness marks on the knobs and receiver to tell that it's not working loose you should be ok.
The big question in my mind is why? The height over bore on a carry handle mount may make zeroing problematic with some scopes and force you to shoot with a very high cheekweld. If you're worried about the front sight base being in your FOV, even 4 power is enough to make the front sight base just a barely noticeable shadow.
On the other hand, if you already have one handy and want irons to be readily available, they make for a cheap scope mount. I know a guy who runs his ACOG like this; but ACOGs sit lower in the carry handle than many optics.
That front sight is exactly what I was worried about. I was thinking about getting a Burris compact 1.25 X 5 scope and was worried about the sight being "in the way" at lower magnification with just rings. I also liked the idea of having my irons ready for use if need be.I am concerned about the height over the bore and was weighing the pros and cons of a carry handle scope mount. I guess I could always get a riser mount and rings too, right? It wouldn't put the scope quite as high as if it were on the carry handle I guess.
