I have a question regarding the front mounting location for a sling on my stag 7L. I have outfitted the rifle with a magpul prs stock and do not intend on replacing the hogue forend. I can only assume that the swivel stud on the forend was intended for a bipod and that I should attach another stud (to the side of the forend) for the sling mount(for a more comfortable carry)?

does anyone have any experince with a similar set up or advice? If a side mount is recommended is there a particular product?

Thanks

heres a picture for reference:

I have, however, I don't plan on kicking down doors anytime soon and will primarily use for hunting. From what I gather the single point is more of a tactical sling for doing all sorts of fancy stuff...I just want to lug this thing to my tree stand.

I run my 2-point sling off the Pivot pin on the front of my receiver using a KNS pin.
I like the setup a lot.

Isn't there a sling mount made just for those round tube forearms? You drill a hole in the forerm and bolt it on with a nut on the inside. It's like a rail mounted sling loop, only without a rail. I've seen them, but haven't used one myself, all my forearms are railed.

You could just add a small rail at the rear of the forearm and use a Gear Sector Sling mount.

I decided I didn't want to drill a hole in the tube just for a sling mount, in case I later decided to change anything. I also wanted the sling mounted as far back as possible to keep the forearm clear. The KNS pin fits the bill perfectly, and also fits my receivers tighter than the OEM pin. win-win.

Ok, I think I found what I'm looking for:

I found this on another forum and I can only assume it is a product similar to this:

are there other/similar options, pros and cons to this?

I like the idea of the pin mount (no drilling) but it seems too close to where I would attach the sling to the stock, in which case it puts me back to the single point.

If you want to use the sling as a marksmanship aid, it's best to attach it to the bottom. If you want to use it for a tactical rig where the rifle hangs in front of you, it's best to go with a side swivel.

It's not too close.

Because it attaches in two different places, it avoids the problems of the single point sling. 2-point slings allow control, shooting stability, and retention. Single point slings allow the rifle to pendulum around, made worse by slings with bungee components. Moving the front sling mount back just allows the sling to be shorter overall.

Agreed.
