AR Mags on thigh

I don't much care for stuff on the thigh, either. In the .mil I did carry my M9 in a Safariland dropleg, but even then I had it choked up as close to the belt as I could get it, using just one the bottom of the two elastic retention straps. I tried carrying other stuff on drop leg rigs and never really found anything that worked for me.

On the other hand, I have a buddy who's a real serious shooter, both in terms of recreational activities and been-there-done-that credentials, and he prefers to work out of a drop leg magazine pouch. If it works for you, go for it.

"...it's an unnatural movement to go and grab a magazine..." Yep. Too far from your hand. Especially if you're face down in the dirt. The old CF combat pants had thigh pockets. Great places for maps and other soft kit. Not so much for mags or hard stuff.
"...tactical fanny pack..." No such thing as a tactical anything. A fanny pack is a purse.
