I think I have finally figured out the mentality of the AR community. Lets see if I have it right:

!) You get an AR.
2) You realize that a few spare parts would be desirable. :)
3) Preparing for any eventuality, you accumulate enough spare parts to build a rifle.
4) realizing that the best way to store those spare parts is to just assemble them into a complete rifle, you do exactly that.
5) Now you have a second AR, and you realize that a few spare parts would be desirable......

I love it!!:D This is a philosophy I can live with.

I think my new AR needs a few spare parts...

WRONG entirely...

You buy an AR. Then they start reproducing on their own...

It also works with FALs

Just a note on #5, now, you have two ARs so you need twice as many spare parts. So, one begets two, two begets four, etc...

Their numbers increase exponentially......

That's not how it worked for me. I found kits at the old Pomona Show and I simply couldn't help myself. Its like a drug.......lol......

It happened to me. I bought a magazine bundle from Brownell's that included a lower parts kit. After sitting on them for a year or so I just had to buy a lower to install them in. I made this one a pistol, but it didn't take long for me to decide I don't like AR pistols so it needed a real stock. You can't have a stock on a 10" gun, so it needs a longer barrel...

The good news is that Ihave a registered SBR lower so the 10" barrel still has a place to go.

M1As will do this as well. I bought an extra stock. Now I'm afraid I'm going to open the safe one day and there will be a new rifle sitting in it.

I have been a parts buyer for a few years. When I see something I'd like on sale I pick it up and stash it in the safe. I recently finished an AR project rifle in 6.8mm.

One of my sons was visiting last week and was looking at the completed rifle.

"Very nice", he said, "how much do you have into this one?"

My wife was also there but was reading one of her home decorating magazines.
Without skipping a beat or looking up from her reading, she replied.
"Not nearly as much as it's going to cost him to remodel the bathroom."

...busted... Gotta love her though. :p

actually, I got my first AR when my Mini 14 had sex with an AR-10. The kid looks just like his father.

My other great excuse is they are cheaper than performance cars and easier to find places to park so I don't hear about it.

I'm the black sheep then, I much prefer a basic, lightweight rifle without all the added tactical crap. In fact I'd love to have a retro 20" rifle instead of my 16" carbine.:scrutiny:

Not necessarily. None of mine have any tactical stuff unless you count a free float handguard as tactical.
