AR now or Masada later?

I've wanted a Masada/ Bushmaster ACR since it was first announced by Magpul. I have been putting off getting an AR, because I really have no need for two .223 semi-autos. However, with the recent events of Nov. 4th, I'm worried that I won't be able to get my Masada whenever it is finally released (early 2009).

Has anyone heard a firmer release date for the ACR? I would think Bushmaster might want to push up the release date so they can actually sell this gun before the new AWB.

Or should I play it safe and pick up a mid-grade AR while I still can? I already have an AK for my SHTF battle rifle, but I want something in .223 that accepts AR mags and handles like an AR, just without gas-impingement.
 
You might get your Masada, all right, if you wait long enough for Obama and co.

Do you know when the Masada will be available? Does anyone? I think the answer is clearly the AR now.
 
AR's have a sealed place in history. masada's dont yet. "Vaporware" could be absolutely true, but the fact is its too early to tell.

i would stick with whats common and easily repairable without breaking the bank. since not alot of people use the masada, possible design or mechanical flaws could surface in 2-3 years that nobody even thought of.

and what happens if the masada simply just doesnt take off? you'll be left with a cool, but expensive gun that needs maintenance, but that nobody will work on, either because of lack of resources or experience. then you're left with having to send it off to magpul every time the darn thing farts.

so, if you cant wait, get an AR. if you can, then wait at least a year and then see if the masada is still something you're interested in.

I once had an italian-made black shotgun (in the early 80's).

It looked great, but shot like crap. It was so awkward and not user-friendly at all. I couldn't wait to sell the junque.

Go with the AR.
 
Buy an AR lower now and wait to see if the ACR comes out. If it doesn't, build the rest of your AR.
 
+1 on buying the AR now.

Just look around for an AR at a decent price and don't give your money to price gougers. Too many gun store owners are using fear and hysteria of them possibly being banned to move merchandise, don't buy into it.
 
Well, let's think - what do you get by buying the AR now? Right now, we are in full-on panic buying mode - so it definitely isn't a buyer's market and you aren't saving money.

Even if the Democrats pulled out all the stops, enforced party discipline and made a new AWB their #1 priority, they wouldn't be able to pass a new ban before March. So you've got at least three months, possibly more.

So if you buy the AR now, you pay the panic buying prices and you still have another three months you could wait.

The only reason to buy the AR now is if you don't think the Masada will make it 1Q 2009 AND you also believe that AR buying will continue or even escalate its frenzied pace so that one may not be available if you continue to wait.
 
i think theres too many other problems with this country,i dont think you'll see any gun regulations for a couple of months to a year,i hope,but an ar would be a better choice. even though they said 1st 1/4 of 09 for the acr,the robarm xcr came out almost 2 years after the original target time.i also doubt that the ban will be re instated the second the inauguration is over,but i think it will come in the future........
 
If you want the widgets and functions and you want it in a rifle that's actually shipping, get the Robinson Arms XCR.

There's another reason: The ACR(Masada) may never appear, or could be a massive disappointment. An AR in hand beats an ACR in the ether.

Of course, this presumes that there's not a Plan C (one of each).

Well, you get the AR now. Shoot it, enjoy it, have fun with it, keep it clean and in good shape. When Masada comes out (if that ever occurs) you can always sell or trade the AR if the Masada looks all that great to you at that time.
 
AR now.

All Magpul did with the Masada was the old dollar on the string joke. Make you think you were going to get your hands on it then yank it a bit farther. Just out of reach but close enough to keep your interest and hold off buying different rifle.

First it was was 2nd qtr 2008 then 3rd now 1st qtr 2009.

I am sure they want to sell the rifle and make the $$$. The sticking point with me is they had to know the 2nd and 3rd quarter dates were not going to happen. But they wanted to keep everyone on the edge of their seats so they released those dates.

Just because that is "good" business doesn't make it morally right.

They have had the prototype out for a very long time. I wonder if they were waiting for the election to see if it was worth the investment in machinery and all this information they released was a bunch off hogwash to keep the consumer interested?

I have been in manufacturing most of my adult life and have never seen it take so long from a working prototype to production IF the company wanted to get it out in a hurry.

With the election I doubt they will even try to get the rifle into production. I don't think the military would be interested and I am sure most Police Dept. would go for the less expensive and more readily available M4.

I wonder what their excuse will be in Jan. of 09?
 
Yepper Get a AR now if and that is a big if the Masada ever comes out you can always sell the AR.
